Charts Question
Rod Stewart has a new autobiography coming out. Rolling Stone has an exceprt this month. It starts out...

In 1971, I had the number one single ("Maggie May") and the number one album (Every Picture Tells A Story) at the same time, on both sides of the Atlantic. Nobody had ever done that: not even Presley, not even the Beatles.

Just wondering if anybody has a way of quickly checking this out. Is it really possible that The Beatles didn't accomplish this at one time or another? I'm guessing that because they would release singles first and then LPs later on in the UK, they didn't top both of those charts at the same time too often? I'm sure they did it early on in Beatlemania, like in 1963 or early 1964. But by the time they started to kick ass and completely dominate the charts in the USA, they were staggering their single and LP releases back in the UK.
Anybody?

Even though the two albums had different tracks, both versions of A Hard Day's Night were #1 in August 1964. At the same time, the title track was #1 also. So it all depends on which charts you look at. The two charts I checked are Record Retailer (UK) and Billboard (US).

Not bad. But the UK and USA albums were very different, so it doesn't really count. That would be the case all the way through Revolver actually, the albums weren't really the same at all.
It would have to be from Sgt. Pepper on to be right, and you can't include MMT either. I can only imagine one possible answer, where the single and album were released close to each other - the single Something/Come Together and the album Abbey Road. Anybody able to look up the USA and UK charts on that one?

I disagree about A Hard Day's Night not counting...but one thing is sure : Something/Come Together was not number one in the UK.

I looked it up after zipp replied, and I think it only hit #4 in the UK. Can't imagine 3 singles being better. Anybody know what they were?

For the one week that "Something"/"Come Together" was #1 in the US, the UK charts had the Archies' "Sugar Sugar" at the top.
