Default R&R HOF 2013 Nominees

The R&R HOF (THE Mistake By The Lake) has announced it's nominees for 2013.
The ones that I agree with are Deep Purple, Heart and Procol Harum.
The ones that I am neutral with are Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Paul Butterfield Blues Band and The Marvelettes.
The ones that I could care less about are Albert King, Kraftwerk, Rush and Donna Summer.
The ones that have no business in the Rockhall are NWA, Chic, Public Enemy and Randy Newman.
It sure looks like the Rockhall is turning into a joke......sad.....

Rush should be the first inductee.Out of that list they've sold the most albums of any of the choices.Doesn't matter if you like them or not.Chicago should also be in there along with KISS(not a big fan,but come on!).

Agreed! Arguably, Rush had had a lot of influence on many up and coming musicians, regardless of what anyone may think otherwise.

Albert King doesn't belong there? Are you kidding? He's about the only one who belongs there! His blues guitar playing influenced many rock-n-rollers!

And Procol Harem belongs there? Once again, are you kidding? Those one-hit wonders?

Rush? I blame them (well, Peart anyway) for encouraging WAY too many people of my generation into buying into the philosophy of that hypocritical greedhead Ayn Rand. Yeah, they were influential, all right. But not for the better. (Although I must admit the new VW Jetta tv commercial with the businessman playing air drums in his car to the amusement of the public entertains me to no end.)

Default Well, ChrisG, I refer you to Wallrus59's statement

... the R&R HOF IS a joke! No Replacements...but by God ABBA is in there~pathetic! :-)

And yes, at least Rush's prog-rock could be included in the rock genre, unlike ABBA. So, relatively speaking, yeah, if ABBA is in there, Rush might as well be, Objectivism and all.

Jeez, I miss Paul Westerberg! What the heck has he been up to lately, besides healing from his unfortunate candle accident!?

I can agree with some early country & blues music being inducted into to the RRHOF.Such as Muddy Waters & Johnny Cash and what not, cause they did influence other artists. But not ABBA!

Default We agree. ABBA is not worthy...

And I still stand my ground on the Replacements, dammit! That they are not in there is a g-d SHAME!

It's all good, ChrisG, we're cool.

I agree and like some of Rush's songs. I can't believe The Replacements aren't in there. Obviously Westerberg must have gotten on the bad side of Jan Wenner b/c The Replacements were in RS as much as R.E.M. back in the '80s, so are you kidding me?

I have no problem with Kraftwerk. No Kraftwerk = no Radiohead, LOL, so yeah, I'm good with Kraftwerk.

I have no problem with some of these rap acts, such as Public Enemy. I cannot abide NWA, however. While NWA maybe embodies the "outlaw" spirit of rock and roll, overall, what they influenced was "Gangster Rap" and glorification of the drug trade, prison life, and most of all greed. Can't do it. However, Public Enemy was political and relatable for everyone from college students to middle managers, LOL, to janitors. Also Chuck D from Public Enemy cited REVOLVER and Tomorrow Never Knows as a big influence.
