As I've never heard about Phil Ochs before, I looked it up in Wikipedia. Oh dear, I was quite shocked reading about the sad decline and tragic death of this good-looking artist.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed listing to this kind of jam... I love such stuff and hope there is more of this on youtube, which we may discover in future.

Thank's for sharing

Default Jelly Guy

Sheer awesomeness!! Was sipping my coffee this morning, checking my Twitter, when suddenly I was being serenaded by a punk rock god.

Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols tweeted this video today. He's singing "Jelly Guy"... he makes up everything after the first verse ...and his whistling is perfection.

btw ~ His radio show, Jonesy's Jukebox, rules. Anyone who can pick up KROQ should give it a listen (though it was 10x better on Indie 103.1). He's so crazy and lovable... and his music collection rocks!

I love it Maia! His voice and the acoustic guitar sound so apropos for such a song. My gawd "Jealous Guy" is a masterpiece of a tune. Perfection.

Steve friggin' Jones... doing Lennon! I love it! He's not exactly the world's greatest singer, but what a tribute, eh?

John songs evoke so much emotional power that even the most unconventional of singers can really make the lyrics & feeling penetrate. That is, of course, of they are of Steve Jones' caliber.

His other vids are great too... I just checked them out. It's like he went through my record collection from 1973 or something. He does awesome versions of two of my most beloved songs ~ Bowie's Lady Stardust and Rod Stewart's True Blue (when Rod was cool... yeah, he was cool until about '75 or so ).

Thumbs up

Just heard a great cover of Good Morning, Good Morning on Breakfast with the Beatles... from Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees, of all people! It's brand spankin' new, so it's not on You Tube yet... but I may download it and post it later because it was quite cool! I think I dug it so much because GMGM is not one of my favorite John songs... but this arrangement really brought out the best of the song.

John... representin' at the Olympics Opening Ceremony. A little funkiness to balance out what is quickly becoming (to me) a tiresome rendition of Hey Jude. ("Okay, now the fellas... now the ladies!" )

The Arctic Monkeys rocked it... as usual!

Personally, I found the whole Olympics Opening Ceremony quite tiresome... and I think that the Beatles weren't represented much, apart from Paul, of course.

The cover is pretty average in my view, but it may be just because I've never been a fan of the Arctic Monkeys. Nevertheless, it was a nice gesture

Well, I guess I'm not the only one who dug it...

If you didn’t catch Friday’s Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London (directed by Danny Boyle), you missed quite a show: James Bond and the Queen parachuting down to the stadium, Mr. Bean nearly screwing up a performance of “Chariots of Fire” and the legendary Paul McCartney bringing the house down.

But the musical moment that appears to have garnered the most attention was Arctic Monkeys’ version of The Beatles’ “Come Together” (you can hear it yourself in the video below). The live performance – led by frontman Alex Turner on vocals and a pretty Les Paul – is currently sitting at #14 on the iTunes download chart, according to NME.

In addition, Boyle’s soundtrack to the whole ceremony (featuring songs by The Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols, The Jam, Muse, Queen and more) is currently at #1 on the iTunes album charts in Great Britain, Spain, France and Belgium. It has hit #5 in the U.S.

Yeah, I think it's a really nice job. It makes me like the song a lot more... makes me realize that it was a pretty good song after all.

To paraphrase Scruffie, "Why you gotta go and make me all sad?"

But I know exactly what you mean. I think some of the ones he may have revisited are more obvious, because he mentioned liking them in interviews... but I wonder which of the ones he never really spoke about he'd revisit. Or would he have reassessed And Your Bird Can Sing and realized that it was a bloody great piece of songwriting??

Do you like Jack White? His new album is awesome!! I posted this video in another thread because I'm kind of obsessed with it (the song and the video)!

P.S. I go through periods of listening to only (or mostly) Beatles, too.

Yeah, yeah... this is technically a John/Paul song, but I still think this thread is the best place to post it.

It's kind of an awesome Bollywood thing. Starts off sooooo promising in the cool department, but tails off in the middle and ends up just sort of amusing.
