The "Mystery" of Suzie Parker..

Gang-

I've always been curious about something regarding a song the Beatles perform in "Let It Be". It's a bouncing little rockabilly-style number that's known as "Suzie Parker".

Was this a Beatles original, or a cover from an obscure oldie, the likes they were so fond of? Was this a song that was going to be released on the aborted "Get Back"?

Also, is it titled "Suzie Parker" or "Suzie's Parlour". In the boots of the Twickenham sessions, John opens with a line that sounds a lot like "Suzie's Parlour" instead of "Suzie Parker", like it's known better.

Any light anyone out there can shed on the topic will be appreciated. For the record, this was the very first song I learned to play on the guitar, much to the dismay of my ex-girlfriend at the time. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

i looked this up a while back. . . there is some difference from book to book as what this is really called. . .
in "get back (the unauthorized chronicle of the beatles let it be disaster)", it is stated as 'suzy's parlour", in 'THE ULTIMATE RECORDING GUIDE", it is 'suzy parker'.
the song was written, jolly-on-the-spot, at twickenham, jan 9 69. . .
it is copyrighted (1971) to all four beatles under the title 'suzy parker', so iguess that settles that. . . cool! i love that tune too!

yeah, i've heard it referred to as "suzy's parlour" but i think i also heard that was because of copyrights.

is it really credited to the beatles?? i totally thought it was a cover song. interesting...

Wow! I really thought the "official" title would have been "Suzy's Parlour," since that's what it sounded like John was saying throughout the song. Paul is obviously saying "Suzy Parker," but I always thought John's lyric made more sense. [img]graemlins/teeth1.gif[/img]

Heres the real story, basically. It seems whomever got the song copyrighted misunderstood what the boys were singing, and assumed it to be about Suzy Parker, a well known model in England at the time. Although whether the real Suzy heard it is unknown, the connotations could not have been less flattering. ("when it comes to suzys parlour, everybody gets well done...")
On a side note, the song does seems odd, that a whole, pretty good rock and roll song could have been completed recorded and forgotten in as much time. Maybe the Fabs felt it too risque?

This is indeed all very interesting! I always thought it was just a fun little song they did for their own amusement. Their own rewriting of an old song.

Could very well be they thought it too risque especially with the connection to a well know British model.

I always loved the line "everybody gets well done"! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I thought they were singing the words Suzy Parker though. Sorry I can't really add anything.

It's hard to say, on the bootleg, John mumbles something about Suzies parlour and then they launch into the song and then it sounds like Suzie Parker. The entire song is on the bootleg Sweet Apple Tracks.

I've read somewhere (I can't recall where at the moment) that Suzy Parker was a nickname for Linda. I assume a not very nice one, but I don't know for sure. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the story, just that I read it in one of the many Beatle books in my library.

Not sure but I was thinking the same think when I saw a documentary on Coco Chanel,and they showed Suzy Parker.

oh yes, sorry...i didn't know a link in a previous post went to an article about her death. yes, i believe that is her because in one of my beatle newsgroups someone called attention to her death.
