Album prices

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but since I have no idea I have to ask: how much did an album cost in the sixties? How much did it cost in USA and how much in the UK?

Because UK albums were longer in lenght was this apparent in the relative price too?

Well in I Wanna Hold Your Hand they were $3.98 Honestly though my mom said when she bought records they were about $3 for mono and $4 for stereo... She said she could get 45s 3/$1

Ooh, thanks. I didn't know stereo was more expensive.

Depends where you bought your records. Big retail stores charged full price, but in the early seventies we use to buy albums at a small independent store called "The Platterpus" for 2.99 a pop. That was the cheapest around in Long Beach, California.

I guess it was supply and demand, people of all ages were scarfing up LP's back then. You'd go to the store and buy two or three albums at a time. Or if you were short on bread, you'd buy one record and listen to it repeatedly for months until you had money for another one. Now I can buy a song for 99 cents, or cheaper, and not have to buy the whole album.
