It seems as if this is the way of the future for bootleg stuff. How does it work? What do you need? Enlighten us please, Oh knowledgeable ones!

I'll try to write something up. Personally I haven't had much luck with Bootleg-only sites.

To use Bittorent (That's the program) to download a .Torrent (That's the small, small file used to download a big file) you need to do 2 things
1. Download a Bittorrent Client (I use Azureus) http://www.download.com/Azureus-BitT...ml?tag=lst-0-1)
2. Download a .Torrent file (There aren't many good Bootleg only torrent sites, but I'll look into it)

For the record, Bittorrent is pretty much made to download albums/movies and big files like that.

So download Azureus and install it, and then open it up and get acquainted with it, because you just met your new best friend.
For this little tutorial thing I'll just use some bootleg strawberry fields forever thing. It contains "every known version" and a ton of covers of the song.

http://www.demonoid.com/torrents/dow...monoid.torrent

That's the URL for the .Torrent file (tell me if it works)

go there and it'll ask you what you want to open it with Azureus should already be the default. Choose Run or Open or whatever.

Now It'll open Azureus for you and give you a menu, choose to save it to your Desktop (Or another folder, it doesn't matter, but remember where it is) and choose Ok. The Azureus window will show that the download is starting and going. Your download speed probably won't be too fast. If you're using Dial-Up it will take you a long time, and if you're behind a firewall or router, it will take a bit longer also.

If you don't understand anything just post here and tell me.

You can read up on Torrents here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent). More simply put, torrents work a little differently from p2p services like LimeWire in the way that you download in parts and the moment you've downloaded even a chunk of that part you start uploading it to others.
The upside: downloading a popular file (lots of people downloading simultaneously) can be very fast. And it helps in cases where the files are LARGE, like a few GBs.
The downside: for less popular torrents, download can start late and may take ages. Also, files go inactive pretty quickly. I have Macca torrents that almost never seem to finish. And since the files don't download one by one, you can't play half-finished tracks either.

Some sites require you to register and maintain an upload download ratio so that you don't just take and take. By the way, people who do are called Leechers and those who plant the files are called Seeders. So the more the seeders, tha faster the download.

Hope this helps.

Question for moderators: If it's ok to name the torrent tracking sites here then I can post some names and people can try them out and post their experiences.

I just found http://www.bootcity.org/ it's only for bootlegs so it's legal i guess.
Just go to the Torrents tab at the top and go from page to page Theres a ton of Dylan boots there.

But for not-so-legal files I use http://www.isohunt.com/

With this glowing recommendation I think I need to try Azureus. Right now I've been using BitComet, which works nicely as well.

I also recommend http://www.demonoid.com - at the moment it has been a mecca for Beatles material. There are a few really great and generous seeders on there.

The best advice I can give to anyone just starting out with torrents is to be patient because downloads can sometimes take quite a while. Also, if you see something you're interested in make sure to get it before it's gone. A good example is that I found demonoid about a month after someone began to seed the Purple Chick complete BBC discs (which I'd be drooling over for ages ). As soon as I found them I started to download, but I was so late that I got stuck 81% into vols 1-5 and only a sad 41% into vols 6-10. Needless to say I'm still waiting for that one to pop up again!

I love Bitlord / Torrent.

I have downloaded so much already in the maybe 5 months I have been using it now. All kinds of stuff, like music, TV series, documentaries, movies. It is wonderful.

One I use a lot for downloads is

http://www.mininova.org/

which has a huge archive, also of radio and TV shows, like from the BBC.

I started torrenting to get songs back after my computer crashed...
I use program called uTorrent (google it), here is also a good search site. (If you want, try the toolbar -- useful!)
It searches lots of track sites.

I just can't seem to get Torrents, I'm not much of a computer savvy person which is probably why.

Torrent files, I downloaded a copy of Watchmen a couple of months ago...well my brother did it for me. The whole process looked complicated to me, he had to download all different things. I guess I'll just play around with it.

See for the most information the first few posts here.
Once you have a torrent program installed you need a place to download the content from. There is lots of stuff, Beatles related also, on Demonoid, just pm me for an invite.
There is also a list posted with the best download sites, where you can download this stuff everyone can find. It's the first topic on this forum.
