Default Platinum Weird & George!

Check this out:

PLATINUM WEIRD

It's a band that Dave Stewart formed back in 2004

But the album won't be out until next spring....

There is a version of This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying)!

It says that it's a 'duet' with Hari back in...*gulp* 1974??

But when I listened to it it sounds more like 1994.

Another thing, that there is an interesting video with Mick Jagger, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, Christine Aguilera, Bob Geldof, Paris Hilton(?) and the two that make me happy: DHANI AND RINGO! Saying that they 'knew' about this band...very clever...

Cheers,
Harii~

Well, it sounds like two recordings creatively combined. One sounds like '70's music, but the other sounds like the later George is singing and playing acoustic guitar?

I'd be surprised if Paris Hilton had ever heard of the Beatles, never mind Platinum Weird.

It's pretty cool that Dave Stewart is starting up a new project, too.
Sound like an interesting cd.

I have tried to find some info on it but nothing so far

It does sound like George and it also says so on this site.

Dave Stewart was a friend of George, so it is most likely just hat it says on the site, a recording we did not hear before. Dave's Stewart's sturdio was used by the Travelling Wilburys and I have read about George hanging out with Dave. They also visited Deepak Chopra together on several occasions.

It seems to be George, and I love it.

Now from when would it be. George's voice is not really well I believe, I am just trying to place it and have not worked that out yet.

I do like the sound of the song and i would say the acoustic guitar is George.

I think the video is just a good misterious promo.

It is fantastic to hear something new by George, we will just have to wait for some more info, I have subscribed to the news letter, so who knows something soon may come up. I will also read back in books to see of there is anything mentioned about a recording.

For some reason the recording sounds like something else George did, I am just trying to come up with what it is.

So....what do you guys think of this version. It surprises me that the usual George people here do not write here on this amazing new discovery...

I think its a good version. George's voice sounds weak so possibly around the time of Sweet Lord 2000???? Usually great slide.

Cool

Hang on there, I hadn't watched/listened this! It's definitely George circa 2000, and most likely on acoustic guitar. I like the fact that they rescued this underappreciated song. The girl's voice is beautiful as well.

There is some resemblance to Horse To The Water in the voice, so indeed I would say round 2000.

I love it, it's wonderful to still be able to hear new stuff from George. I agree with what everone else says about it being from roughly 2000. There is a weakness in his voice similar to My Sweet Lord, but still it's great. I agree with FPSHOT too, I think George is on acoustic. As soon as the song opened I thought 'that's George!'

Thanks for posting it ILUVHARi!

I like this version very much. The female voice blends in beautifully with George's, and it's emotional. Emotional to hear something "new" by George also, tho I can't place George's voice very well. At first I thought that someone took George's original version, and mixed it with their own version. But now I agree that his voice here is from a much later period.

It's not george on electric or slide, I agree most likely he plays on the acoustic guitar. I find it great that this song gets the attention it deserves, the original is an underated gem.

I also think George is just on acoustic. The guitar sound sounds a bit like the demos which were added in the box set.

For a moment I thought that the electric guitar may even be Eric Clapton, but I think it is Dave Stewart. I hardly know his work, so can not really identify it, but that is what I think. He should have some contribution I'd say?

Yes the original was underrated I think. The press for instance did not bother too look and listen further than concluding that it was the follow up from the White Album song, which they probably just typed in to make text and it also was described often as another sad song from a sad album, which also made me shale my head and ignore those comments.

This version again highlights the beauty of the composition on musical level and also give a fresh listen to the poetic lyrics.

It is nice to see again a very Harrisonic description of feelings and moods when he says

This here guitar can feel quite sad
Can be high strung, sometimes get mad
Can't understand or deal with hate
Responds much better to love

Go listen to George on Ying and Yang with Fugelsang when he sang Any Road and All Things Must Pass. That's the time frame I think it's from. That's how his voice sounded on that show. Wasn't the VH-1 show filmed in LA? Didn't Dave Stewart live in LA? Thought I read that somewhere.George's voice on this is stronger than Horse to Water. If I had to bet the house right now I'd say 1997. Final answer, REEG!!

Can you please tell a bit what Ringo says? I don't use this Quick Time thing which is required to see the footage, because of all the Spam it creates
