Revolution #9
I like it. A lot. I think it requires repeat listenings to fully appreciate. The individual sounds are fascinating enough but what amazes me is how they are interwoven to form a vague but definate structure. It all comes together together for an evocative and gripping experience. It is hard to put into the words but the sounds are 'real' as if you are actually experiencing the anarchy first hand. Yes that's it. Revolution #9 is something that must be 'experienced'. Believe or not I even feel Revolution #9 has a certain catchiness to it and I find myslef replaying it my head just like any other Beatles song. It truely is a great great 'song' ......or whatever it is.... it's awesome.

Revolution #9 is a masterpiece and very radical in how it works.
Think of any piece of music and you'll instantly know what type of emotion it's evoking. Here, There and Everywhere brings up the love emotion for example, and Honey Pie is a get up happy song such as Yellow Submarine. Other songs, like I Saw Her Standing There, Me and my Monkey and the single version of Revolution instantly get the adrenaline pumping and makes you want to get up and just dance.
Revolution #9 also envokes an emotion, but it's one that no other piece of modern music had, or has ever dared to try to manipulate ever.
It's the emotion of fear, and the song really does work on it.
Listen to the song, at night, lights off and whilst wearing a pair of headphones. If you manage to get through it whilst it's playing forwards, just you try it when it's being played backwards....

I've always been fascinated by Revolution No. 9. I can't say I put it on everyday and dance about my room to it, but I do quite enjoy hearing it.

'Radical' is a good word for it. I don't know if it's really a song or not, but it is pretty cool to listen to anyway. There's so many different sounds and noises, you could play this one for years before you hear them all. I love turning off the lights and sitting in the dark in my room and playing it - it always gives me goosebumps. It's pretty scary to hear it backwards too, and try to pick out all the 'hidden messages', the first few times I did it, I couldn't even sit through the whole thing, I was so scared.

Is this what Johnandyoko's unfinished music stuff is like? I think it's groovy, but a bit scary in the dark on your own.

'Life with the Lions' is just annoying really. The insanity has just gone way overboard, and add to that the wailing of Yoko in 'Bed for Beatle John' and the dark sinisterness of 'Baby's Heartbeat' and you get a record that quite rightfully sold dismally.

I've spend I don't know how many years trying to figure "Revolution 9" out, thinking that I was missing something cause it was obviously a piece of art. Now I don't try anymore and just except the fact that it's just rubish really. That said when I am in the mood I like to listen to this high quality piece of rubish, there are some nice sounds in it.

It isn't a song you should have to 'figure out'. It doesn't have a story nor coherency. It is a very random, unpredictable piece of music - this adds to its uniqueness.

Well George Martin thought so too so you are in good company haha. It's not everyones cup of tea and is constantly refered to as the least popular Beatles track (along with Mr Moonlight) but it just works for me for some reason.

Oh, it's unique all right.
Actually, I don't think there's a right or wrong to this debate...it's like abstract art or poetry...if you have that kind of mind and there's something in it that grabs you, you see it as art. If you have a more literal mind (that would be me), you see it as globs of color, nonsense words, or random snippets of sound that don't add up to anything. I don't deny that others may see art in it, but I just see...nothing.

I like it. It took a while to grow on me, but once I'd listened to it a few times I started to enjoy it. On my first hearing of it, it was just a load of random noises. But as I listened more I realised how well it's put together. I discover something new each time I hear it!!! And yes, it's very scary in the dark, through headphones!!! But how do you play a record backwards?!

You can download MP3s of it backwards.
Or there are programs that can do it for you.

I've still never actually listened to it in it's entirety. I've never wanted to. I cant see myself liking it so I've never listened to it all the way. I keep saying I should give it a listen just once, but I never have yet....

If it was made by someone other than John we wouldn't even know about it and nobody would be calling it art.
It's just awful.
But I like the backwards stuff in it but that was most likely unintentional.

I don't think it's art at all. I'll listen to it, just to listen to it. I like one backwards piano part though, it's pretty cool.
