Re: The fifth Beatle
I voted for George Martin because I believe he was most beneficial to the band.
Brian was good for them in the beginning but soon lost his use.
Stuart and Pete are no more than footnotes and in the big picture are only tiny parts of Beatle history.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I went for stu... Pete was a fourth beatle and then ringo came and HE became the fourth beatle. To me, "fifth" beatle means being an actual member of the band, and thee were 5 once, so...
Stu it is.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I voted for Brian, and I don't think he "lost his use", because they would've needed him, but all choices were good.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I went with Sir George. I hated voting against Brian, because he gave so much to make them "The Beatles". But, George M. contributed to so much to their music. Not only with his ideas, but he also did alot of performing.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I had to go with George Martin, he was the one who groomed their raw ideas in to good songs. Without him they would have never made the records that they did.
Sometimes I feel that with another producer they could have been lost into oblivion. They may have made ordinary records with a blah producer and never have created what they did.
George Martin was part of the Beatles creative process. "No he's not" said Little Nicola.

Re: The fifth Beatle
Brian was the 5th Beatle. He saw something special and unique there at The Cavern, on that "rather dimly lit stage." I don't think George Martin would have ever had occasion to visit The Cavern. Brian was not only thier manager, he was their friend.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I thought I just replied to this...maybe it was on another board...
I think Brian was the 5th Beatle. Of course, the Beatles were about music, which may lead some to believe George Martin was...but the Beatles probably would never have come across Martin had it not been for Brian. Had it not been for Brian, they might never have gotten out of Liverpool. It all goes back to Brian.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I also chose George Martin. He certainly played an important part with the 'sound' of the band. I also believe being with the band longer would qualify him as the fifth more.

Re: The fifth Beatle
George Martin for me. Brian was an important part of their history, but George Martin had the most influence on their music.

Re: The fifth Beatle
I voted for George Martin too. I guess it was because he was more like a member of the Beatles than Brian, and because he was with them for almost their entire career so he had a very big influence.

Re: The fifth Beatle
Yep, my vote went to Sir George too. All the others were undoubtedly influencial, but George Martin really helped them develop their music. He gave them so many ideas, I don't think the Beatles would have reached the heights they did if it hadn't been for him.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif"> Brian is the 5th person to enter the band, even if it is as manager. Brian recognized the appeal the boys could have, if polished a bit.
Sir George brought out the luster.
