Jazz Trumpet
I play trumpet in our school jazz band, and we're supposed to listen to examples of improvizations so that we can learn how to do it...ehh...NOOOO! lol but anyway, can anyone recommend any cd's or artists that might be of use? Thanks! (does anyone else here play trumpet?)

Oh, thanks! that helps a TON... I'll check out the trumpeters' (can't believe Dizzy Gillespie slipped my mind when I was getting info today, hehe) stuff at the library, and I'm looking at the sites right now. thanks SO much!

Re: Jazz Trumpet
Hey,
I play trumpet in my school's concert and Jazz band. I can't improvise though, but the written solos in jazz are fun to play.

Re: Jazz Trumpet
the confidence to improvise will come the more you play. trust me, i never thought i would get it, but when you understand the structures of the chords and what sounds good there wont be any stopping you...

Re: Jazz Trumpet
Cool 09! I love concert band... Random advice (I came crawling up to my band director for help): Randomly play notes that are in the blues scale in the song's key, and people will think you know what you're doing. (blues scale in Bb Concert: C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb, C) OMIGOSH We had to try out for a solo in a 30's song, Sing Sing Sing (aka the Chips ahoy song). Those people play with the STRANGEST vibratos... They practically slurred partials! I'm done with my rant now. Hehe

Re: Jazz Trumpet
no bother at all, i love this new area, could talk endlessly about music of all kinds, miss my band days at school and uni. loved playing all the different kinds of music and messing around at the breaks.
