Default The USA debt issue

I do hope there will be a good solution before the rest of the world again faces a big disaster due to how the USA deals with finance whilst wanting/trying to be the world leader.

IS the world leader... just accept that.

But yes, I know... not for long. China will eclipse us sometime in this century... and India, Brazil, the EU, etc. are all ready to take part in this new world order. What's sad to many of us liberals (and others) here in the U.S. is that we have absolutely no visionary leadership, no commitment to being a great society or to make this world a better place for ALL.

This most recent manufactured crisis is just a tragic symptom of the lack of this vision of a better tomorrow. If anyone in Washington had the guts to speak the TRUTH, then maybe we wouldn't be selling our middle class and working class down the river so that American corporations and their multi-millionaire shareholders can continue their (temporary) world domination.

China has already eclipsed us on many levels, according to our leaders, we seemingly have no debt. But all we can do is sit back and see what will become of this 'compromise' in the next few years. Hopefully the next president will keep it sustained, assuming it's worthy enough.

Is?

Look at the past 20 years

Financial troubles - sourse USA

Wars - sourse USA

Terrorism - sourse USA

Natural disasters like the oil ones - source USA

So it's all fine to call yourself the leaders, but most tragedies from the past 20 years originate from the USA in some way.

If you actually recap everything that's been going on the past twenty years, most of the world's tragedies have not been related to the US. But I know how easy it is to just blame us in regards to the most recent issues. I wonder how much better the world would be if the US was wiped of the map...

Nobody's denying anything, FPSHOT. I'm just saying that it's not as simple as you're trying to make it out to be.

I know it's not simple, but to keep this arrogance of thinking to be the world leader with these world wide troubles originating from this 'leader'....

I sampled some music from that Dutch thread, and I'd say otherwise.

You may not know but the financial crisis from some years back started in your back yard and almost happened again in the same back yard a day ago. Google a bit..

Oh sorry to be less informative, I mean those which cause terrible things to nature like in water.

I would love to know what a Dutch music sample has to do with world wide tragedies so feel free to inform me. It's never too late to learn.

I would be curious to hear what solutions people might have or thoughts they might have on how to improve things rather than just a "USA SUCKS", "NO WE DON'T" type thread...and I'm saying that as a moderator as well as a reader.

Well since I am a moderator as well as a reader I would suggest to just do some communication without feeling offended and say something about the topic issue to have some discussion in whichever way about something related to the issue.

Sharing opinions is something what happens everywhere so why not here?

I share sortlike discussions with people on LinkedIn and Facebook from many countries as also USA which are worthwhile and interesting but the moment I do it here I get the same people reacting the way they always do in stead of having a conversation. Quite sad they do that.

Wouldn't the oil spill be more of a man-made disaster? Hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. aren't really our fault.

Just to be clear, that post wasn't directed towards any particular poster, it's just that I can already see it deteriorating into that kind of exchange, so let's all not go there, shall we? Thanks.

Please do not do word games, you know very well I do not blame anyone for tornadoes or hurricanes .. yet... and the latest oil desaster may have originated from a personal failure but what happened afterwards is a different issie.

If we're not the world leader, why would the rest of the world face a big disaster if we don't deal with our debt properly?

I hope the next president and the next Congress are more financially responsible. I'm proud that my US Representative voted "no." But, as predicted both of my "Washington Establishment" Senators voted "yes."

How many people on this Forum could run their personal finances as poorly as the US Government does? If you lose your job or are not making enough to meet your bills, is not your first thought "where can I cut my expenses?"

I know there are those that will answer get a higher paying job. We've done that countless times by raising this debt ceiling time and time again before. You can only get so many "new" jobs.

Exactly. What's the point of having a debt ceiling if it's not going to be enforced? If you're a boxer and you go past your weight class, you can't just redefine the boundaries. You have to face tougher, heavier opponents. As the debt balloons, Congress has to make tougher, heavier decisions. At least they've cut down on the financial and literal black hole that is the space program, although on the downside, now the USSR is gonna totally dominate us in that department.

I'd pack up my stuff and move to Scotland...but I don't have enough money. It's a vicious cycle, dammit.
