Default NYC Tickets Now on Sale www.lennonthemusical.com

yay! prices for the working class
$45 and up...Tickets are now on sale NYC to the John Q public after the gold carders got their pic of the best seats...

plus heres some info from the site:

Q&A with LENNON Director Don Scardino - Part 3

Q: Let's talk about the music for a minute. Is it presentational rock and roll? Or do characters sing to each other?

DS: It's both, really. Songs come naturally out of the dialogue and are sung to characters on the stage. Other songs are performed like a rock and roll concert. We do a little mini-concert of the songs from "Double Fantasy" (Lennon's last album), because that is music we never got to hear in person. So we try to re-create that sound. But each song is given its' own treatment, and they are not always arranged as rock and roll tunes. Harold Wheeler (Hairspray) is the orchestrator, and he's writing for a band of ten, so there's a lot more color in the charts; it's not all just rock and roll.

Q: Does LENNON contain Beatles songs?

DS: When I began writing the show, I thought, "What songs would John have in this play?" I decided that he would play his most current songs, and focus on his solo career. He wasn't very interested in the Beatles' music, in fact, he had to dig up an album or two when Sean got curious about them! Sean saw a Beatle cartoon at a little friend's house and came home saying "Daddy, were you a Beatle?!" Anyway, his solo song-writing tells John's story very directly and emotionally, so I felt they would serve the book in a better way. It was an aesthetic choice to leave out the Beatles music. We do have early Beatles songs in the show, but not from the Lennon-McCartney catalogue.

Q: How involved is Yoko Ono?

DS: She owns all the songs from Lennon's solo career. I needed to get permission from her to tell the story. And I wanted it to be the "authorized" version. She's been very supportive of the show since our first meeting. So we have her blessing. Since she represents John's estate, she has all the guarantees and approvals that the Dramatist's Guild gives to any author, living or not. She was in all the final casting sessions, which was great fun.

Q: Has she been involved in the writing? Demanded changes?

DS: Not at all. She has approved the script, which I think is great, because the show has to be truthful. I asked her a lot of questions, for historical accuracy, or for her feelings about certain things, and she made some wonderful suggestions, all of which I used. But she has allowed me to tell the story in my own way, from my point of view, which is very generous. She offered us two unpublished, never-recorded tunes written by John, and a third song that was only recorded by Ringo, and that was such an incredible gift! I put all three into the show. She's an amazing person, a true star in the art world, and an original thinker. John said she was his teacher, and I believe that.

Q: What are those new songs called?

DS: "Cooking In The Kitchen of Love", which is a bouncy rocker, "India, India", which is a sweet, mellow sort of tune about coming to India while his true love waits in England, and "I Don't Want to Lose You", which may be the saddest, most poignant love song he ever wrote.

Q: How did you feel when she gave you these songs?

DS: I thought my head would explode! We're so privileged to premiere them in LENNON. And I felt that, coming from Ms. Ono, it was a real vote of confidence and belief in the show.

I have to tell my brother about it. He took us to New York to see CATS at the Winter Garden Theatre. Maybe somehow we can go see this, too. ;)

Do you think they will be traveling and putting the show on the road?? If so, I hope that they come to Columbus. I mean, after all... the Phantom of the Opera is (LOL) and I am seeing that in August.

Man, I sure hope Paul comes to Ohio. And I heard that Ringo is even thinking about going on tour. How fab is this?? I better start saving money now.

Speaking of seeing CATS at the Winter Garden Theatre, I went past that Tiffany's store that John comes out of eating a hot dog in the Imagine tape. LOL!!!!!! It's not a store anymore (at least not that particular one). Haha... And my name is Tiffany. And Paul says my name on the First US Visit, talking about the song Breakfast At Tiffany's. I am so special. And John said so. He told May, so she says in her book, that John says that Scorpios are special (the sign) and that is me!!!!!!! woooooo hooooooo!!! I AM special. Thank you John.

Ummmm....Tiffany's on Fifth Avenue most certainly IS "still a store!" Tiffany's is the most famous jeweler in the world, and their flagship store on Fifth Avenue at 57th Street has been there well nigh on 100 years. I go past there all the time...if it wasn't there, believe me it would be big news.

Oh, and "Breakfast At Tiffany's" isn't a song (well, it wasn't in 1964, though there's been a song with that name since), it's a famous film from 1961 starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, and based on a novella by Truman Capote. Holly Golightly, the main character (played by Audrey Hepburn) is one of the most famous characers in modern literature.

Just thought I should correct some errors here...as a New Yorker, they jumped out at me.

And now -- regarding the musical.......hubby and I are considering getting tickets for the New York run. We'd like to do it, but it's out of our budget, especially once we pay a babysitter to mind Jamie. Those $45 seats Dorothy mentioned are in the highest balcony, believe me...a decent seat on Broadway these days is $100+.

Well I just saw the musical yesterday in San Francisco-and YES May Pang is definitely LEFT OUT when they're singing about his time in L.A. I'm assuming since Yoko is producing it and this is her project, she just "felt" that she didn't want May's part INVOLVED in any way-shape or form.

The "John's" were protrayed by several different singer's of diverse ethnic people & that included "females" singing the John song's as well...The set's, background musician's were & the costume's were just AWESOME! It's about 2 hour's long w/ a 15 minute intermission also included a giant screen showing clip's John in the many phase's of his life...really liked that they included some obsure song's as well...i.e.NYC, Woman is the Nigger of the world (which was sung by this petite black girl w/ a POWERHOUSE voice), Grow old with me...

I truely RECOMMEND it if your a real JL fan!!!

Donna~

P.S.-I'm still here in Frisco...I'm writing this in the business office at the Hotel.

Donna, thanks for sharing! I am sooooooooo going to see this in NYC. I have to! This is like something I said I wanted to see back when I heard about it. So, could you give us a summation on how the songs were performed? Did they do them justice (I mean, to the extent they could), or what? I am so excited about seeing this. I read about the several versions of John, of different ethnicities, races, and genders and thought, "Hmmm....OK, that's weird..." but then I think, well John did have that saying "One world, One people" and its almost like carrying on that message I guess.

It's too bad about May. That gets me thinking about Walls and Bridges...will it be remastered this year? I mean, it's pretty much an album John made where May was right there with him. I'm sure Yoko probably will because she's honestly going through his catalog and I really have to thank her for much of what she has done in distributing John's music.
