International Beatles Convention
Hamburg, June 17 – 20, 2004
PRESS INFORMATION -
Finally! The Beatles return to the city where it all began. More than 40 years ago, four young lads from Liverpool were let loose in Hamburg to hone their skills on the stages of the town’s red light district. This is reason enough for Star-Club e.V., to hold it’s first International Beatles Convention on the spot where the Beatles started their musical revolution in the early 60s: the Hamburg Reeperbahn.
“Hamburg has opened our eyes“ (Paul McCartney)
Spontaneous sessions in venues all over St. Pauli, performances by numerous bands from the Sixties and gigs by “companions from the old days” make memories come alive and take those of us who might have missed those years back to the time when Hamburg was one of the world’s great cities for music. “We take people back to the magical days of the 60s“, promises organizer Horst Fascher. He should know. As a close friend of Paul McCartney, he and a couple of friends founded the legendary Star Club more than 40 years ago. According to Mr. Fascher, between June 17 and June 21, 2004, an expected 50,000 convention visitors can look forward to far more than just a meeting of crazed fans on the lookout for rare records or souvenirs.
“Our best work was never recorded. What we brought on stage in Hamburg was fantastic“ (John Lennon)
Over four fab days, bands like “The Searchers” (“Needles and Pins“), “The Quarrymen” (John Lennon’s first band), “King Size Taylor & The Dominos”, “The Pete Best Band” and many more will rock and roll in the same venues where the Beatles proved themselves during more than 300 performances. Concerts at Indra, Temple Bar and the convention centre at Millerntorplatz 1 offer international specialists and unique rarities. The four-day programme includes auctions, exhibitions, a “Beatles bio in music”, a Beatles band contest and a few special guests.
