Todays (6/11/12) USA Today has a cover story 'The Beatles Turn 50'. Nothing new in it for us Beatlelinkers......top 5 chart positions......600 million albums sold.......20 #1 singles....etc., etc.. But it makes for great reading.
FYI - The USA Today commemorative issue is now on sale thru July 9 for $4.95. I'll buy one later today.
It makes me feel warm inside to see our heroes still getting recognition, even tho they haven't recorded together in over 40 years.

I just read the article and examined their list of the top 20 songs...agree with some, disagree with others, but love them all, so it hardly matters. Everyone has their own opinion-this chart has "Ticket to Ride" as the best song ever. It is a great one...but not sure it is the best.
The article is good too...except for an injection of sourness by the author of "Paperback Writer", who disses Ringo and George terribly. I totally disagree that the band would have been the Beatles without them. Pete Best didn't cut it as a Beatle, in my opinion (he didn't have the right hair, for one, lol). Ringo and George were absolutely the right people at the right time to make it all happen.
Hard to believe it is 50 years...

By the author of Paperback Writer, do you mean Mark Shipper (who wrote a satirical biography about the group in the late 70s)? There have been a couple books by that name but that may very well be my favorite Beatles book of all time.
Edit: Just found the article, that's kind of disappointing coming from him, especially seeing as how Ringo gave him an in-depth interview to prepare PW.
