Some of these are dead, most are mp3's.
Does anyone REALLY burn a CD from mp3's?

Yes, I burn MP3's despite being mediocre quality. But I cannot be too picky about something that is free.

I don't think it's being "picky" at all when there is free software (EAC or Windows Media Player, to name two) that allows one to make an exact copy of a CD.

I got a lot of questions still about bootlegs in mp3 format. Not everyone knows how to handle FLAC files or has a lot of storage space on their pc, or have other reasons they are looking for mp3's. So I keep both the sites that has FLAC and mp3's.
I'll go through the sites and update the list one day again.

FLAC or wav files are no more difficult to handle than mp3 files are. One can get the flac frontend (and EAC comes with it) for free. Using EAC one can rip an EXACT copy of any CD in the same amount of time and with the same effort as required to rip it as mp3's. If you can make an exact copy, why do anything else?
I could give you a list right now of which sites on your list are not good if you want.
Dinostunz, for one, is void of anything. There are no boots by anyone there at all.

I'll be keeping the mp3 sites on there for people who still wants to download mp3's, and there are many of them.
Dinostunz is still working, tho you have to click on the link to their new url. I'll update that. Thanks for pointing that one out.

Hard drive space. Mp3's are much smaller, how much smaller depends on compression, of course, but at best quality a Mp3 is still about 1/2 -1/3 of the file size of a FLAC and 1/5 or less of a Wav.

A 320 KBPS mp3 is nowhere near the 1411 KBPS of a wave file in QUALITY. Besides, one can get a 1 terabyte disc for under $100 US now. So, the space argument doesn't fly anymore.
Sorry.

Ah, but it all depends on WHO's hard disk we're talking about here, doesn't it? Server hard disk space is by no means cheap! I should know, I've worked as site admin for well over a decade. Also there's the matter of the monthy transfer limit to adhere to. Just check out some ISP site hosting packages and see for yourself.
In my opinion, you should be glad people offer you free downloads to start with. If you pay for the download, yeah, THEN you can gripe about the quality, not of free stuff you don't pay a cent to get.
Sorry.

I don't see the problem here.
If people want to download mp3's, and as said there are plenty who still do, they can do so. I am not going to remove these sites and ask everyone to just buy an external harddrive.

For the sake of convenience, MP3's are the most universal. Many people do not like to download additional software (free or not) to be able to listen to a song or burn a CD. MP3's can transport instantly to iPods and CD's. Still I'd say MP3's are of sufficient quality if they are out selling CD's although I do prefer lossless myself. Unfortunately, iTunes does not offer FLAC or other lossless files.

Actually, iTunes offers files in Apple lossless format, AIFF.
MP3's are not more convenient, just more used because most people are computer naive.

I'm a computational chemist and have been sys admin everywhere I've worked since 2000. Server disk space isn't cheap because business people know they can charge big bucks for the space and get away with it.
We have a server where I work and when we need more space we just go and buy a bunch of external drives.
You obviously weren't around when disk space was $450 for 30 MB.

You don't have to do that. You could list, however, what is available at each site, so the serious collector like myself doesn't waste their time. There are others like me that only do flac format. If you doubt it, check out demonoid sometime.

Nobody is necessarily being naive because they don't want the extra clutter. When they start replacing MP3 players with lossless players (which I would like), then I can understand the inconvenience. I believe AIFF is only available for Apple products. I am not sure if the newer phones and music players are gradually accepting different music formats, but MP3's still seems to dominate the other formats. Anyway, as a major collector myself (one of those blogs listed being mine), I will generally try to offer lossless. But I have no problem settling with MP3 is that's all that's available.

What "extra clutter"? You just burn the flac files to a CD-R, which is easy to do, and then delete the "unwanted" originals.
It's not rocket science, kids.

The extra clutter of additional unwanted software to be able to burn lossless files (not all burning software allows this). Not to mention CD's themselves tend to be the most saturated. Why do you care anyway?

My findings:
1) http://qualitybootz.blogspot.com/
2) http://qualitybootz.blogspot.com/sea...el/Beetles-The
3) http://qualitybootz.blogspot.com/sea...-The%20members
Several Beatles bootlegs in FLAC
4) http://mychaosandcreation.blogspot.com/
Many flac bootlegs
5) http://octaner.blogspot.com/index.html -- Beatles and solo boots
Mostly mp3 bootlegs.
5) Dino and Princess'Bootleg Tunz World http://bootlegtunzworld.blogspot.com/
No boots here.
6) http://yourmothershouldknow03.blogspot.com/
Good site, about half flac and half mp3.
Many great bootlegs, a lot of them in FLAC
7) http://thebathroomwindow.com/
I couldn't find any boots here.
8) http://thebeatlesrarerecordings.blogspot.com/
There were 28 boots listed with some dead links.
9) http://returntopepperland.blogspot.com -- Macca and Beatles boots and videos: mostly mp3's here.
10) http://beatleshelp.50megs.com/beatlegs — Tribute to HELP. Also other boot mp3s. Offers single songs only.
11) http://beatlesource.com/bs/mains/audio/audio.html — The Source. Rare Beatles and solo boot mp3s
A few mp3's offered here.
12) http://eternosbeatles.blogspot.com/index.html --- solo and group boots
Some mp3's and sme links to them are dead.
13) http://downinthegroove.blogspot.com/ -- some beatles and solo boots; this site seems to be dead.
14) http://sirfev.blogspot.com/ -- Fev's rare discs. Macca boots
This site has no boots at all.
15) http://justbeatlegs.blogspot.com/ -- Beatles boots
I couldn't find anything usable here.
16) http://mocholand.blogspot.com/ -- Beatles, solo and other artistes boots: mp3's here.
17) http://beatlesmania.blog.com/ -- Beatles and solo boots. This site also seems to be dead.
18) http://maccabelgium.blogspot.com/ -- macca + beatles boots
Mostly mp3's here.
19) http://mujubox.blogspot.com/index.html -- Beatles, solo and other boots
Probably the third best site on this list: a few boots in flac and the rest is in 320 kbps AAC, which is better than 320 kbps mp3 format.
A good job on this list, though some sites are lacking, which is not the fault of the list maker.
You missed Juliocmail's blog at http://juliocmail.blogspot.com/
Julio has a good amount of flac stuff on his blog.
Keep up the good work all!

You've obviously never used software to burn losslessy. Or you have a computer that is ten years old?
On my pc, the programs FLAC, Burn4Free, and EAC take up 0.98, 2.65 and 10.0 MB, respectively.
On the other hand, iTunes, which is probably a program many use to play mp3's, takes up 112 MB, almost 10 times the space that those "cluttering" programs required to burn lossless discs occupy.
