Default Beatles Capitol Boxset avaliable to pre order

The infamous Capitol Beatles album boxset is now avaliable to pre order from amazon.com and play.com, for £37.99 including shipping.

Personally, I don't think I'll buy it...I'd rather have the 'proper' UK albums reissued. It does seem odd that this set is going to be issued in the UK!

When Neil Aspinall mentioned a while back about a major Beatles project for 2006, perhaps he was referring to the UK album reissues, following on from these US boxes? I hope so, but my bank balance doesen't!

I think this is good for all the American fans who grew up with those albums. We already have the U.K versions on cd (although reissued and remasterd verions would be nice) so this is great for all the completists out there. I personally like the U.K versions, because they were the way the Beatles planned it (mostly) themselves. But I'm not complaining, since I fall under the category of "insane Beatle completist"

I'm glad the US LP (hopefully with the proper to the US mixes, quite a few which duiffer to the 'proper' UK mixes) CDs are coming out.
What has to be understood is that due to publishing considerations of the era (BMI and ASCAP split royalties 10-12 ways per LP, any would only pay royalties forthe fiirst 12 songs per LP disc), you needed different compilations.
I've been waiting YEARS for these to come out!

well we in the US, have learned to love the UK cd's, that's how we bought the Beatles CD's when they were released UK only, so why not give our versions a listen at least, take them out from your library or something when they are released.

The main reasons I'm getting this:

1. Booklet
2. Mono/stereo
3. different mixes

Heres a pic from Amazon.com (just search Beatles capitol albums)

I must say, while I'm still excited by the release the box art looks dissapointing...i guess i was expecting something better looking than a long box that looks like it was designed in ths 80's.
But I'll still be getting it:

Update II (10/12/04) IT'S OFFICIAL!!! Here's the official press release, issued this morning, announcing the boxed set:
October 12, 2004

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE FAB FOUR FROM '64 -- MEET THE BEATLES!
THE WAY AMERICA FIRST DID
CAPITOL TO RELEASE THEIR FIRST FOUR BEATLES U.S. RECORDINGS IN A BOX SET

On November 16, 2004, Capitol Records will release The Capitol Albums Volume 1, a collection of the first four Capitol U.S. records by The Beatles. The set brings together for the first time on CD the album that began it all - Meet The Beatles and the three other Capitol albums that were released in 1964 - The Beatles Second Album, Something New and Beatles '65.

"These are the records that introduced The Beatles to America 40 yearsÊago. Remastered from the original American master tapes, these were the audio mixes and sequence of songs that found their way into our homes, commented Capitol Records president Andrew Slater.

With the explosion of the Fab Four in 1964, Capitol Records not only released one album by the group - but four - and though these albums contained less tracks than those released in Britain, these were the albums that America grew up with.

"In the Sixties, American record labels often chose to reformat British records to suit the needs of the U.S. market," according to Slater. "In America, singles were generally included on current albums, where in the UK albums and singles were most often separate releases. Higher music publishing costs in the U.S. also made it impractical to include as many songs on American albums. In addition, in the case of The Beatles, some of the recordings on the American albums were given more echo than the British versions, to 'Americanize' their sound."

Further, each of the discs will include two versions of each song - one in stereo (or duophonic in some cases) - then the selections are repeated in mono. The duophonic sound was carefully created by Capitol, using 2 channels of mono which were equalized, compressed and then reverb was added. The Capitol Albums Volume 1 have been carefully mastered from the original masters, taken from the vaults at Capitol Records, to ensure that they sound as they did when first released.

With the release of The Beatles catalog on CD in 1987, releases were standardized on a worldwide basis and eventually the U.S. albums, which had last appeared on vinyl and cassette, were deleted. Since that time there has been increasing demand for these original U.S. albums to make their CD debut which they now do as part of this specially priced and uniquely packaged 4 CD boxed set.

The Capitol Albums Volume 1 includes all four of the group's (Capitol) 1964 album releases, and each of the discs is housed in a miniature replica of the original album cover. It will also feature a 48 page booklet, along with a scrap book effect of photos and clippings from that amazing year.

The Capitol Albums Volume 1 is a special release, commemorating the close of the 40th Anniversary of when America first met The Beatles.

If there is a Vol. 2,it would likely be The Early Beatles, Beatles VI, Help! (USED with instumentals), and Rubber Soul (the US Edition) .
