Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
Time to open up part two of "Ringo's song of the moment" also known once as "Ringo's song of the day". Let's get the discusion about the different Ringo songs going.
I'm just listening to the Ringo album again, and "Devil's woman" jumps up my throat. I didn't really like it at first but it's a nice rocking song, sounds good nonetheless.
So let's hear it for "Devil's Woman".

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
Ugh... too many horns on that one. Ringo rocks on the drums, but the horns and his double-tracked lead vocal are not really my cup of tea. This must be my least favorite song in the Ringo album, sorry.

Doesn't matter, I am just happy to see a reply. Been talking to myself over here for hours.
Oh well it's still not my favourite from Ringo also, but I just had it on and just enjoyed it.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
It's a nice rocker, as if there are two drummers involved, I quite like it.
Lyrics were maybe written in the back of a bus
you look so good
and you look so fine
one of these days
I'm gonna make you mine
Oh well, to me not the weakest link of the album, I like the guitar solo, but the saxes are too much upfront.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
It's ok, but man, the scary drawing on the album booklet is enough to give you nightmares, isn't it??? Eeeeesh.
Not one of my favorite songs (I agree - too many horns! Saxophones or devil horns?? Hey, it's Halloween night, cut me a break.) but it's not awful or anything. One of my Ringo buddy friends uses "Devilwoman" as an alias on-line sometimes and people always assume she's into the occult.
But I digress....

I'd like to suggest one. How about La De Da from Vertical Man?

Now there's a typical Ringo song.
Yeah nice one.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
Typical Ringo a-la 1970's. Perhaps he doesn't need to be 'serious' all the time, right? It's got a good beat, nice chorus, but the lyrics are a bit dull. He has much better lyrics in songs like "One", "What In The... World", "Mindfield" or "Puppet"... that could, perhaps, have made better charting singles, who knows. Still, a very enjoyable tune, for sure!

You know, I was gonna pick Minefield, but I thought I was the only one who liked it! I do like that song, it's one of my top ones off that album, although the whole album is quite good.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
Somewhat similar to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire", Ringo's rapid-fire vocals are done rather well here.
Minefield
What's right, who's wrong, ev'rybody takes sides,
My God, your God, God it's such a fine line.
E-mail, jump bail, man becomes a female,
War wet, dragnet, take another percocet,
Somewhere in between
There's a world you've never seen.
Perhaps it's just a dream
But it's so real to me.
Livin' in a minefield, we're walking on thin ice,
Livin' in a minefield, there's no time to think twice.
Only we can make it better,
Let's all get well together.
Rock stars, pop stars, living in an ant farm,
Smooth talkin', cool walkin', drownin' in your own charm.
Mystic medicine, maharashi let us in
Way out, weigh in, where the hell have you been?
Somewhere in my dream
There's a twilight in between.
A place I've been but never seen
And it's so real to me.
Livin' in a minefield, we're walking on thin ice,
Livin' in a minefield, there's no time to think twice.
Only we can make it better,
Let's all get well together.
Ev'rything you do or say
Comes with a price that you must pay,
I didn't know that yesterday.
Good junk, bad funk, I can see through you,
Peace, love, ev'ryone be your own guru.
Ha! Ha! Ha!
Mindfield, I'm walking on thin ice,
Livin' in a minefield, there's no time to think twice.
Mindfield, WE'RE walking on thin ice,
Livin' in a minefield, there's no time to think twice.
Mindfield,
Mindfield,
Mindfield,
Mindfield,
Mindfield.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
Thanks Kat this is my oppertunity to get even with Legs and Darkhorse, saying; we've had that one before so I'll just copy what I wrote last time
Just Kidding
A very powerful song, starting with some sixties guitar sound, but in the end reaching a very hard rock sound.
In between there is a great Starrsong about living in a mindfield.
Good sound, very good Ringo vocals, good guitars, a very short Harrison reference just two seconds, via a fake sitar and tabla touch.
Lyrics are very very wise

I don't think I'm aware of the song. Very interesting lyrics tho. Very poetic, really. It has my curiosity peaked.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
"Without Understanding"... that weird bit of the soprano woman singing is really upsetting... But I like the song as a whole. Although I don't think it was much more than a filler track.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
Looking for inspiration, Ringo thought the operatic addition would help him.
Without Understanding
Richard Starkey, Mark Hudson, and Steve Dudas
© Startling Music Ltd/MCA Music/Beef Puppet Music/Do Dis Music
You said you were my friend,
You don't even know my name.
Is this the beginning of the end
Singing your songs with the same old pain.
Without understanding where can we go?
And if the world stops turning,
How will we know?
Understanding,
Imagination,
Without understanding,
No good vibrations.
The book is open to me,
I can see in your empty pages
You got eyes that won't see,
Traveling blind in your own mazes.
Without understanding where can we go? (hey, hey, hey)
And if the world stops turning how will we know?
Understanding,
Imagination,
Without understanding,
No good vibrations.
When you hear the angel sounds (hey, hey hey)
Turn around. (yeah)
Two voices becoming just like one,
Can it be done?
Without understanding (understanding) where can we go?
And if the world stops turning how will we know?
Understanding,
Imagination,
Without understanding,
No good vibrations.
Understanding,
Imagination,
Without understanding,
No good vibrations, (no good vibrations)
No good vibrations, (no good vibrations)
No good vibrations,
No good vibrations.

Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2
If I can be so bold as to suggest another, I think that with the Concert For George coming out this week this would be a good choice:
________________________________________________
Never Without You
We were young, it was fun
And we couldn't lose
Time were right, overnight
We were headline news
Crazy days and reckless nights
Limosuines and bright spotlights
We were brothers through it all
And your song will play on without you
And this world won't forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on...Never Without you
(Without you Without You)Within you without you
Here comes the song it's about you
Here today, not alone
With my memories
Life is strange how things change
It's reality
You played a beautiful melody
That keeps on haunting me
I can always feel you by my side
And your song will play on without you
And this world won't forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on...Never Without you
(Never Without You)Within you without you
(Within you without you)
Here comes the song it's about you
I know all things must pass
And only love will last
I'll always love the memory of you and me
Take it away Eric
And your song will play on without you
And this world won't forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on...Never Without you
(Never Without You)Within you without you
(Within you without you)
I think that love is about you
______________________________________________
Even though we're never really without him, I miss him dearly daily.

This is a great song. Heartfelt and touching. It couldn't of come from anybody else and had the same meaning. Way to go Mr. Starkey
