Re: Revealed - the greatest Britons of all time
Being too lazy to go back and read all the threads on this subject, I will assume that I didn't, but I did mean to mention this a long time ago. Just goes to show how special he was, I guess.
I have to admit, if I was one of the other living people on the list, I would be a little put out by that, though.

Re: Revealed - the greatest Britons of all time
Come on everyone visit the link and vote for John again. He's 7th and if we all vote we can make the difference. Does anyone seriously think Diana was a greater Briton than Lennon? You can vote once now and again on Sunday night when the results are revealed. Get your friends to vote as well.

Well, Rel, yes, that's true. Then again, look at some of the others on the top ten list:
* Diana, Princess of Wales, who divorced her husband, a Prince of the Realm, amidst scandal and shame that was heaped upon the throne.
* Lord Nelson, who played fast and loose by having an affair with another woman who may have had Napoleonic sympathies.
* Oliver Cromwell, for which I have only two words: Revolution. Regicide.
By comparison, what John did was pretty mild, say what?
BTW, for those following this horse race down the wire (all three of us), Winston Churchill has pulled into the lead. The list is currently as follows:
1 Winston Churchill
2 I. K. Brunel
3 Diana, Princess of Wales
4 Charles Darwin
5 William Shakespeare
6 Sir Isaac Newton
7 John Lennon
8 Elizabeth I
9 Lord Horatio Nelson
10 Oliver Cromwell
As noted earlier, John is seventh; sadly, that's four positions behind Diana. THIS IS INTOLLERABLE!!! Got to the site and vote like you're in Dade County for John! Have him outranked by anyone else, but NOT HER!
(And the first person who accuses me of Cromwellian sympathies, so help me...)

Much as I like John and all, I don't think my support for him extends far enough to make an "011" call for him...

Re: Revealed - the greatest Britons of all time
Oh well, Sir Winston is a good winner.
Have not seen Harb in the supporters area, there was not much camera view on that side.
It was an interesting debate though.

Vox populi, vox deii...
On the bad side, Diana got that high? Better than Darwin and Newton? Maybe the brain drain worse than we thought...
On the other hand, having John Lennon outrank Oliver Cromwell gives me some considerable satisfaction. There's something in my Irish blood that feels just warm all over at that...
Of all the big winners, I'd agree with Winston Churchill, and Brunel made a good second. The rest of the list I'm happy with position-wise, although Diana if she had to be there should have been 10th.
Ah well, on to the next such poll...

I was actually in it quite a lot. Every time the camera went to Alan Davies I was in the top left hand corner with the telephone number over my face

I saw you! You had the 'vote' card, right?
I think it's a shame John only came eighth. I don't think he is the greatest Britain ever (I wanted Churchill or Darwin to win really) but I still wanted him to do well. But saying that, coming eighth out of 100 was pretty good!
