We've all seen this one a million times, but I love this particular version of this Hamburg shot:

“What I love about the shot of John and me is that it shows the great working relationship we had. It was a joy to work with John, particularly when we were writing and organising, as we were in this picture.
I can’t recall exactly what we were doing – maybe a lyric, maybe a running order, maybe the medley on Abbey Road. At some point we had to organise what song would go where. I just love the joy of that picture – it’s beautifully composed. There were also the difficulties of the period – which show up in the film Let It Be – which I think have overshadowed the truth. It was a very heavy period.
But this picture shows it wasn’t all like that. There was some light. And that’s how I remember our working relationship. Even though there were some tough moments, this was a great friendship”. —Paul McCartney

UPDATE: From the recently-released Magical Mystery Tour DVD, I now know that this photo was taken in the editing suite while they were cutting the film.

^ Paul looks Hi Hi Hi in this photo. And I love his hat! Also, I like John's looks during this era.

Thanks so much for sharing this with this quote from Paul. This has always been one of my absolute favorite pics of John and Paul, and to hear him say the same thing I've always thought when I've seen this picture (what great friends they were) is really special.

I've always loved this photo. I probably wouldn't want my daughters to date those two ruffians, but I would!

Love the images taken from their final U.S. concert at Candlestick Park.
It was a cool evening there, and you can see the wind blowing through their hair in the pic below. Paul even says to the audience, during his first "address" to them after "She's A Woman", "It's a bit chilly!"

The coldest place on earth? San Francisco in the summertime.
