Those of us old enough to actually remember what fashion was like in 1980 could probably tell you that it was a rather bleak time for cool, classic style.

As usual, John was an exception... what a cool mofo that boy was!

Time to revive this thread.

John looks impeccably cool in the white suit with what looks to be a chocolate brown button-down (with top button undone, natch)... presaging the John/Yoko white suits of '69.

Oh yes he does look cool. John is owning that look and that picture, to be quite frank. My gawd he was gorgeous in that suit.

Default John looks great but WTF is Paul wearing?

Mum's housecoat? Yikes!

Sorry, Fab Fans... John was the Beatle who did the '70s best, fashion-wise. Here's some proof:

He wore that jacket to perfection... in less capable hands, it could have been a disaster.

^ That entire combination is so Autumn cool. I love the dark olive green corduroys paired with a yellow cashmere turtleneck and beige blazer. It just works.

That is the true indication of a fashion icon. We are not worthy John.

I'm definitely seeing the eccentric side of Sean the most through his fashion sense. I think his dad's style was more refined, classic, cool. Whereas Sean's is a little more quirky, eclectic, lively, and...colorful.

I love that he has it. Sean is definitely not boring.

Well, in this picture, I can't find anything cool or refinded, but just morbid, boring and phantom-like

I disagree Snoopy. John's style here was a fantastic model of the times, and he was always cutting-edge. He has that hippy hair and his trademark glasses, yet he's wearing a very tailored, modernized take on an Edwardian suit. And then that stance..,

I'm going to put it simply: John STAYED cool. From 1940 to this very day. Always.

This is the look. I want that jacket for Mr. Scruff, tbh.

Oh yeah, I agree, but I thought that particular photo looked a bit like Sean's style. Though John had some eccentric style too... mostly classic, refined but almost always with a touch of quirk. Like a nice tailored suit with a t-shirt and tennis shoes. (Much more rare in John's day than today.)

And yeah, that jacket is perfection!

I'm looking at it again and I do see what you're saying re: Sean. The thing with Sean is...he's not afraid of color. John was also not afraid of color, but I do think he toned that down in the late 60s/early 70s and was more apt for monochromatic or less bold solids or prints. Now, I think BOTH John and Sean and incredibly stylish men without a doubt, and I definitely see so many similarities...but it's interesting how Sean can remind me of John yet stay very true to his own style. He's such a unique individual.

(By the way, new GOASTT album is coming out I need to freaking make a post!)
