Default Guitar Lust

Every so often, a particular guitar hits a nerve and I obsess over it for a short time.

I have always loved SG's - they may possibly be my favorite guitar of all-time. Lately, I've been over a model like George owned:

(Don't worry, Sweetie... I may be crazy but I'm not insane!)

MMMMMM ... well I've always admired (was going to say drooled over) Rickenbackers and Burns guitars and I cannot say with any conviction I will own either.

I once played a 12 string acoustic and loved it, although I've never owned one. The fave ones seem to be the Telecaster/Stratocaster configureation and the various copies.

But I have been to the Gibson guitar factory in Memphis and had a look in the shop, in fact had my picture taken with a couple of beautiful looking Epihone guitars, well worth a visit if you are ever in the Memphis area.

Oh and I would like to add I do own a rather aincient Hofner, now it has a Compensator nameplate but not sure if that was actually a Hofner model name.

Gotta admit... that guitar is pretty damn hot! I don't know how to play, but I'd hang it on my wall.

But, of course, it's the man behind the ax that makes it truly hot!

If I won a lot of money, I'd head straight to the guitar shop with wild eyes!

Yep, did it myself about 10 years ago now.
The finish is still in great shape, here's a shot from a couple weeks ago.

That's a spot-on replication of Paul's Rick paint job. How did you do that? What reference did you have at your disposal?

Now this was back in the days before I owned a DVD player so I put in the Anthology VHS and paused it when there were good close-ups of the bass during "Walrus" and "Hello Goodbye", also checked the "MMT" LP.

Impressive, considering I'd have to imagine that your reference material couldn't have been all that great....?

Again resurrecting a very old post:

That's one I'd love to have, too. But I was aiming rather at the Epiphone version (how could it be otherwise?) Anyway, I've never found either a Gigson or an Epiphone with that tailpiece. What's the name of the model of the guitar in that picture? Or must one buy a guitar and a tailpiece separately? And what's the name of that type of tailpiece?

Editing to add: I often dream of SGs, Casinos and 12-string-Rickies-360 like George's first one. Even of J160s, sunburnt finish.

I believe they are making - or recently made - a model similar to this one. This product pic was taken from an instrument web site at the time I posted it originally.

The tailpeice is a "Maestro" style tremelo tailpeice.

I could be wrong, but Robbie Krieger also played an SG with a similar configuration.

Here's my left-handed Telecaster. I didn't change any of the pickups, I didn't paint a darn thing, I didn't even take the plastic off of the pickguard...

I have a lefty Les Paul Custom that I played forever (not easy being a lefty in the axe world--you right-handers have got it made), and when I had a few extra dollars, I bought this (I always wanted a Tele too for no particular reason). It took a long time to get used to because it weighs an ounce whereas the Les Paul is heavy and the neck/action is so much different.

This is my customized Fender Tele. It's a 50's reissue body ('85) w a Fender custom shop neck. I took the ashtray off and put a more precise tuning bridge assembly on it and dropped Joe Barden pickups in it. I modeled it after Danny Gatton's rig. The amp is a Kustom Coupe 72. This rig is loaded for bear.
