Default There are still 4 Beatles

The news that Paul and Ringo may perform got me to thinking; how many Beatles are still with us? That is, guys who were IN the Beatles at one time or another; not 'guest' artists like George Martin on piano, not members of the Quarrymen, Silver Beetles, etc, etc. Just honest-to-goodness Beatles.
I think there are four;
Ringo (drums)
Paul (bass, etc)
Pete Best (drums)
and...
Chas Newby!
Who played bass four times with The Beatles between Stu Sutcliffe leaving and Paul taking over on bass!
So, technically, there are four Beatles, and, while it would be a real bass'n'drums treat, it may not be what the world wants. Even though the idea of four Beatles taking to the stage this summer does make the heart beat a little faster!

I would say there are only 2. There may be a number of people still alive that once of twice played with various members but really, in terms of BEATLES, there are just the pair of them left. For me anyway.

I agree. Just playing with them for a stint doesnt really qualify them as Beatles for me. For me to call someone a Beatle, they would have to really be an a official member of the band at some point.

This is of course, the correct answer. There were, and always will be only 4 Beatles, God bless John, Paul, George & Ringo.

Technically there's 3. Paul, Ringo and Pete.

Were they called "THE BEATLES" when these guys were there or something like Silver Beetles or whatever it was?
Anyway, its all nonsense, despite Pete Best popping up now and again moaning about his downfall, there were only ever 4 real beatles

For me there's two and only two. They were the ones who were there from beginning to end, and not just there to replace someone else for a little while. Or in Pete's case, got kicked out.

Yes, they were The Beatles, not Quarrymen, Silver Beetles, Moondogs or anything else, they were actually in The Beatles. That's the point of the thread, guys who were IN The Beatles. So there are four Beatles. Not the correct four, but still four. Amaze your friends, ask them how many Beatles are still with us.

Even if he did, sadly Billy Preston passed away 6 June 2006.

My two encounters with Billy were good. A true gentleman.

But Pete Best was not one of the Fab Four whose music and charisma captivated the world. I find it annoying when people defend Pete Best. George Martin didn't like his drumming, and he didn't get along with the other three. To paraphrase George Harrison, Ringo WAS the Fourth Beatle. He just didn't come at the beginning. Ringo had perfect chemistry with the other 3, and that chemistry made The Beatles even more special.
