Selling My Collection
Thought about this for awhile, now I think I'm ready to do it. I'm interested in selling a good chunk of my bootleg collection.
I started collecting in the mid-80s, through the golden age of bootleg LPs, and well into CDs. I'd say the last major stuff I bought was the Day By Day series. I didn't collect every single version of the same stuff, I was more interested in the actual music. It always bothered me when they kept re-releasing the same material over and over in a new cover with maybe one different track. If I had the Please Please Me Sessions already, once was enough. So most likely, I'll have the first LP or CD issue of something, which I'm assuming is a good thing.
If you knew me, you'd know that everything is pretty much in the exact same condition as when I bought it. All LPs were kept in plastic sleeves, non-smoking home, etc. If it was part of a set, I would always try to complete the set. And if it had an outer box or special sleeve or insert, I'll have it for sure. There have to be at least 300 or 400 LPs and CDs all together, probably way more by the time I get done counting it all.
It's mostly Beatles, with a good dose of solo stuff too, mainly Lennon and McCartney. Off the top of my head, I've got the complete Lost Lennon Tapes LPs, Beatles At The Beeb LPs, SAPCOR LPs, probably all of the Yellow Dog CDs, all of the early Vigotone, etc. I'd say if it came out from about 1985 to around 2000, I'll have it.
I started compiling a list, so far it includes all of my Beatles LPs. CDs will be next, then on to the solo stuff. If you're interested in seeing the list, or if you have a specific LP or CD you're looking for, just send me a private message with your e-mail address.
Thanks.

Best of luck.
I did the same, and downsized and am content now with just the Original UK LPs and the 2009 CD set, the 1991 Hamilton Apple figurines and a few t-shirts.

Don't suppose you have anything from the Beatles while they were in Western Super Mare?

Do you have a date for that concert? It doesn't ring a bell, so I'm guessing I don't have anything like that.
Send me your e-mail address through a private message, and I'll send you my list.

I sold off my entire collection a year or so ago (someone in this forum might have been lucky enough to grab an item or two, you never know!) and now just deal primarily for a bit of pocket money. I did it because it was all just sat in a cupboard and not getting any attention, and I decided that it was time that somebody else had the chance to enjoy the stuff I'd collected over the last 15 or so years. I made enough to pay the deposit on the home I now own, so I'm not complaining.

Hey man, long time huh. Good to hear from you. Saw you got married, and you bought a house too. Congrats! So that's two big purchases. Uh... I mean, changes.
I'm sure your collection was easy to sell off, you had a lot of rare stuff. Plus it was all legit releases, so you could use eBay and other outlets. Most of my collection is bootlegs, so I never wanted to risk selling it out in the open. At least not yet. I did sell a few things back when I first posted this topic. But almost all of it is still in the exact same place, sitting on the shelf. One day it'll go.

Hey, man! Yeah. Sold it all and used the proceeds to buy something a little more stable and insurable value-wise. The legit stuff was pretty easy and it did all sell on eBay. decent photos and decent write-up is the easiest way to sell on there. So long as it looks like you know what you're talking about and can hype it up without going into hyperbole then you'll do alright. Bootleg wise, I agree, is more difficult to sell, but then there is a difference between bootleg Beatles and counterfeit Beatles. Do you have many record fairs near to you? Might be worth just buying a table and seeing what you can get there (that was one of my initial ideas when it came to sell my stuff, to take it all up to Liverpool and sell as much as I could at the Beatles convention they have up there every August). if they allowed the sale of bootlegs.
How did you buy them in the first place? Could you re-sell them using the same method?
Do you still have the Butchers and company sleeves?

The guys at the swap meets (where I got nearly all of it) around here get busted every once in awhile. I haven't been in a few years actually, but I'm assuming a lot of that traffic is gone. It's all online, nobody pays for anything anymore.
I do have some legit stuff I'll probably sell off eventually too. I have the original 45 picture sleeves, and yes of course my butchers. I remember you being a fanatic of Introducing The Beatles and the butchers. Did you sell that stuff too?
Man I remember all those conversations back in the day on AOL. That was like 15 years ago huh, seems like another lifetime.

Yeah, that all went. Like I said, it was all just stuck in a box in a cupboard for the last 5 years previous, so I knew I wasn't going to miss it if I sold it. Still buying and selling when I can (earns a few pennies) and managed to luck out on a blank back mono intro a couple weeks ago, which will hopefully earn me some drinking money.
