I liked Yoko's theme in the essay she wrote for John's recent box set. She repeatedly mentioned how "John is everywhere." I guess I never put too much thought into it, but my senses were triggered by Yoko's astute observation. How true she is. I see & hear John in a lot: in the musical artists who he has inspired, in the t shirts that say "Love is the Answer," those who are outspoken for positive change, and even in certain styles.
So I guess we can turn this into one of those counting up things.
2. In Joseph Gordon-Levitt's completely obscure adulation.
I love that kid in "3rd Rock From The Sun" - he's a great actor!
FYI...John Lithgow (Joseph Gordon Levitt's "Dad" on the show) sang the song "Danny Boy" on one of the episodes, spontaneously with absolutely no reason or provocation apparent ... AND
On The Beatles' 1970 album Let It Be, at the end of the track "One After 909", John Lennon sings the (uncredited) opening of "Danny Boy" with altered, and unclear, lyrics spontaneously with absolutely no reason or provocation apparent.
3. I saw an ad for That Metal Show featuring Jani Lane, the singer from Warrant who died a few weeks ago. Anyway, he was wearing a Lennon t-shirt... can't find a good photo of it, but you can kind of see it if you know what you're looking for. (He's the second guy on the right.)
4. Today, one of the guys who works in my office was listening to his "roc en espaņol" radio station and he was telling me about a band he likes called Sin Banderas ("without flags")... he explained to me where they got the name from, but I told him, "Are you kidding? They were inspired by John Lennon's Imagine." He looked at me in disbelief at first, and then said, "You know, you're probably right." (But he coulda just said that cuz I'm the boss... )

Reason: forgot to number my examples...
5. About two weeks ago, I met up with a friend "from the old neighborhood" and we went for a long walk. As we crossed one alleyway right across the street from my old high school, something caught my attention so I gave it a second look... there on a brick wall behind a coffee shop someone had painted John's portrait. Nice job... 1971 era John.

11. Don't know if you've heard of Robbie Conal, but he was huge in L.A. in the 80s and 90s. From his Wikipedia page:
Quote:
Robbie Conal (born 1944) is an American guerilla poster artist noted for his gnarled, grotesque depictions of U.S. political figures of note. A former hippie, he is noted for distributing his poster art throughout a city overnight using his "volunteer guerrilla postering army."
Here's his poster of John (obviously not "grotesque"):
12. This guy got some friends together and made this mural out of Post-It Notes!

^ I love both of those! I have heard of Robbie Conal. His work is very honest. I don't know how some may react to it, but you can't deny his stuff speaks with boldness.
12. A very popular (and well rated) Japanese restaurant in Makati (Philippines) is called:

OMG! That place must'va been authorized by Yoko...after hearing about that poor bloke in Ireland or Wales that had a pub called Lennon's and she threatened to sue the KILT off him
13. I went to a meeting at a high school today, and as I was walking to my car I saw this emo kid with a Beatles t-shirt on, so I asked him who his favorite Beatle was. Without missing a beat, he looked at me and said, "John Lennon." I asked him if he was in the gifted program...

18. My husband and I were in the artsy/hipster cool Coventry in Cleveland Heights a few days after John's 31st anniversary, and I walked past this little book store and guess what was on display there?
