I put Rembrandt down from the list there, but my favorites would be Vermeer's work, Manet was good aswel, Dali was great for his surrealism,

I take critical and contexual studies which is the history of art, so have been looking into a lot of artists, one artist i have been looking at recently was Matisse aswell, his is great, i love the style he uses, in paintings like interior with harmonium.

I'm looking at music in art at the moment so have used artists like Picasso, matisse, braque, Manet, degas, vermeer, dali amonst others, all have some interesting work,

some people in the class are looking at icons within art, so have used some andy warhol pop art of the beatles thanks to me and someone else looking at pop art using Peter Blake with the sgt pepper album cover and other artists like Roy Litchenstein.

I went to a gallery in York last weekend and saw some work of William Turner which was great to see, as he is very famous, and the english artist David Hockney. They had an exhibition of Tracy Emin aswell, with her controversial artwork, it was weird i must say.

But yeah, enough of me blabbing on, rembrandt from the list would be my favorite! :P

Dont get me wrong, I think he's actually the most positive person I know of, just next to Alec Guinness. I dont compare them to john, just for note. And I don't compare ANYONE to Bruce Lee.

Personally, I like Annibale Carracci who I've been studying in art. But, he's from the Baroque period, and not to many people know about it . But I chose Van Gogh because I like his artwork, its colorful and nice to look at.

When Vincent went down to Provence, he just ...i dont even know how to describe it...became the Sun. He was working fiercely, like a lunatic, just picture after picture, he even portraited the Sun itself. And not at sundown/rise, at the zenite! .....undescribable....a normal person cant even bare to look at the Sun, when it's at a certain decline, let alone when it's right above you!

....And WHERE are the Norwegians?

i heard from my mom, who is a bachelor in arts, that Edward Munch was not only in a nut house, but also was eloctro-shocked. Is that true?

Are you looking for us to agree with your choices, raul? Because some of the artists you listed are not "great", in my opinion. Or maybe the opinion of others as well. The ones that beatlesfan listed in his post are agreeably better artists and should be noted--IMO. Whenever I make polls, I list the most popular choices--not so much the obscure or mediocre ones. Although, it is fun to throw a lemon or two in there sometimes! Just a little suggestion is all, raul. I do like the spirit of your polls, thus far, and enjoy them. You seem like a very intelligent and well educated person.
By the way, we do agree on the genius work of Van Gogh, who is and always will be my number one choice.

Warhol was shrewed. He knew exactly how the market worked. The whole popart bit was a big joke played on all these art "experts" that want to "educate" the public. Seen some of the interviews he's given at his showings? He can hardly keep a straight face and who can blame him? He collected old masters himself, you know.

Great art has an intrinsic value that has nothing to do with money placements. There's nothing intrinsic with a can of soup, except for the fools that pay big bucks for a painting of one.

He WAS a lunatic, Raul! That's so obvious in his art. You can trace it from painting to painting, the progression of his mental illness. Personally, I can't stand looking at his disturbed mind disintegrating. It's too painful.

kandinsky, mondrian, matisse, chagall, klee, arroyo, hockney, gaugin, modigliani, dali, i could go on and on. i'd like to take some of those classes that matt mentioned.

digdad, you and digmom should visit the dali museum in st. petersburg, if you haven't already done so. try the veal, er, take the guided tour.

great -another van gogh lunatic (joking). seriously Great to encounter vincent lovers. Im more passionate about him, than anyone at this moment. Of course im not looking to comply with me, just list your favs! Its all oponional in any art, in my opinion. Glad you enjoy em. Thanks on the compliments. That Van gogh was a lunatic should be teached at kindergarten. Of course he was. Who doesn't know that, can just as well go commit him self as well.

I've always been meaning to try the veal, I mean see the Dali Museum (and the Holocaust Museum for that matter), but haven't made it out there yet.

He struggled with anxiety. I mean, look at the Scream. The man knew angst.
And yes, he was electro shocked, because that's what mental institutions called "therapy" back then.
