I suspect that this post was made purely to try and create some kind of vast over-reaction from everybody. Otherwise I cannot see the point in the slightest to go to a Beatles fan board and tell everybody that they think they're crap.
|
Therefore the post author is a troll. Oh he may not speak in annoying text speak, but he tried to stir up anger by calling our favorite band crap. Now if he hadn't called them that then I would have believed him when he said he wasn't trolling.

I hate rap and bubblegum and Pop Tarts and pretty boy ensembles too, Harb. I don't like most country, but you won't see me (see, there's that Beatle influence sneaking in) going to a rap or gum or country board dissing the music that others like. If the Beatles were so overrated, then why are they still being referenced in a myriad of shows? Even kids like them thanks to "Baby Road," a spurious knock-off of "Abbey Road" and the Powerpuff Girls' Beatle theme spoofing on John and Yoko. In early 1965 Raisin Bran used the Hanna-Barbera characters of Jinx the Cat and twin mice Pixie (bow tie) and Dixie (vest) to don Beatle wigs, throw in some "yeah yeahs" and sing about Raisin Bran. Joe Diffie, a country artist did a song entitled "I've Got a Love That's Bigger Than the Beatles" (I think that is the title) and you can hear Beatle influences in that song. Many artists say the Beatles inspired them to pursue a musical career.
Can't dodge that Beatle influence - it's everywhere, from commercials to popular TV shows to music today. GGirl said it well in her post above. Oh, and GGirl, I like George too.

The Beatles were, and still are the most overrated piece of crap band ever.

I think everyone here has been exceedingly polite to you, but to my mind, you are trying to get a reaction, which strikes me as just a tad trollish.
Just my OPINION.
Thank you for your two cents. Have a happy day.

Why would I say this? They were so influential! Please enlighten me. How are they influential to groups such as Motorhead, Linkin Park, Black Sabbath, Sum41, and Green Day?
Their music itself is horrible. How can anybody enjoy listening to songs like Hey Jude, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Money, Let It Be, and All You Need Is Love?
Again, this is just simple MY OPINION. I am not trying to be an internet troll. There's nothing I hate more than trolls.
Edit: I see a mod is viewing this. Please don't lock this thread.

You are right in implying they were influential to many groups. I cannot speak for Linkin Park or Sum 41, as I am unfamiliar with them. But I do know the Beatles were really admired by the other groups you mention.
Lemmy called the Beatles the best band on earth! I know Green Day cited both the Beatles and the Stones are huge influences and said they thought modern bands are straying a bit far away from these important groups. And Ozzy is a HUGE Beatles fan!
Maybe you like a sort of harder edge than the Fabs usually provide. And just because the groups you like (I am assuming you like the groups you cited) ..like the Beatles... does not mean you have to really agree or understand why it is they like them. Not everyone who loves Bob Dylan probably loves Woody Guthrie.
The Beatles were very creative. You might not like the results of their creativity, but you must admit I think they did many things first, and in our collective opinion (and as Lemmy said!) most of us will agree they did many things best!
Perhaps they seem simple to you? Just guessing... but there is an art in simplicity. Sometimes the most jangled, complex art form does not convey as much or touch as deeply as something which is beautiful and simple. Many truths are so simple, that when you hear them it feels like an awesome refreshing breath of air.
Maybe if the Beatles are not for you, just go on enjoying the groups they inspired. Maybe later in life a time will come you may even feel differently, who knows.
Also, the songs you mention are not George songs. Maybe you just are not a John/Paul kind of fellow.

Freak, can we have our .2c back, please? We want a refund!
Bat & WWoman, you and Hari's Chick said it best. While I agree with both of the enclosed quotes, I tip my hat to Hari's Chick for her unflagging courtesy and fair minded answer to Mr. Freak. (I think his behavior was very trollish, sorry). If Freak doesn't like the Beatles, then why in the blue hell go on a Beatle board when you could spread venom like this on a Beatle buster board and other like minded individuals would accept this sort of thing.

To each his own Mindfreak, now go away and try to annoy fans of other bands you don't care for!

Hey wonder what would happen if I went onto a heavy metal site and posted something similar about their music.....very troll like thing to do if you ask me.
Oh yeah and Lemmy (of Motorhead) was in a band called Hawkwind who my partner is a big fan of and they have mentioned Harrison and Lennon being big influences.

You called our band crap. What more do you need? I think I clearly explained what a troll is. It's not how you speak, but what you speak. You posted to stir up controversy. That is a definition of a troll.

Maybe not a troll but I can think of other words. LOSER, WASTE OF SPACE, IDIOT. Need I go on?
I even kinda agreed with you about overrated but you have backed up your statement by behaving like a fool and not giving any substance to your argument. Why bother coming here if you dont have genuiene reasons for making negative comments about the beatles ON A BEATLES FORUM.
Why dont you just **** off!

I didn't want to stir up controversy! I was bored and I decided to make a topic on a Beatles forum. As I've said, it's all just my opinion.

So out of boredom you wanted to stir up controversy on a Beatle forum. Was there nothing good on TV or what?

Know what? Yeah, that's exactly it. My Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weren't going to be on for a few hours and that's why I wanted to troll a Beatles forum. *waits to be banned for nothing*

We all obviously disagree with Mindfreak, but stop calling him names.
Having said that, the reactions aren't unexpted. If you come to a Beatle forum just to post what you did then you obviously want to stir up controversy, the fact that you haven't responded with any good arguments comfirms to me that you're not willing to have a good discusion, and you shouldn't be surprised at the reactions.
However I do find the discusion itself interesting, and it would be a shame that it would have to be closed.

The topic at hand is if you think the Beatles are overrated, not if any particular person is or is not a troll. If you don't want to participate in this discussion, then don't, but yeah, name-calling is not appropriate. Thanks.

I'm a long time fan & must say, I'm surprised that people discover the Beatles to this day! Look at the young fans we have here. I think it's cool, but what causes it? Why are they so "in front"? I think it's a question the Beatles themselves have been asked over & over & you know they didn't have an answer for it.
Why is Elvis "the King of Rock & Roll"? Why has his legacy continued? Is it the press/media? I mean, honestly, it's the same thing.
Everyone is entitled to their own taste in music & if XMindFreakX doesn't like them, that's fine. There are plenty of people who do.
I, personally, am very fascinated by fandom. What makes people like or dislike something? What causes the fandom to continue? I mean, if you were a lone fan without people to discuss the Beatles with (as we do have here on Links) would you listen to them as often or think about them less? So, does the media feed the fandom? Do fans feed the fandom to others? Or is the band really that good? Maybe yes for some of us. Maybe no for others. It's all interesting if you really think about it.

You have brought up something interesting there Asha, there must be a reason why they are so popular, I don't believe its the press though.
I am not sure they are over rated as musicians though i do think people have made them too god like when they are/were four ordinary blokes good at songwriting, I find it uncomfortable when they are seen as godly figures too especially in the press because it leaves too much for any other musicians to live up to, it makes me wonder if another band/singer comes up who is just as good if not better than the boys people will see this or just be blinkered by the hype the Beatles had.
Don't get me wrong i love them to bits but they really are not the be all and end all and they would be the first to say so, people like who they like and thats it.
Obsessive fandom is scary, y'know when people cannot live a normal life outside their obsession.
None of this make sense when i read it back but its hard to explain.

Like Trekkies?
I kid. We're not as scary as the media makes us out to be.
