Default Power to the Young Beatle Fans.

( Random thread, but not spam.)

As you know, this was my first year at the Fest for Beatle Fans. I worried I'd be outta place among the older peoples attending but I was completely wrong. Not only were there young teenagers like me, but there were young children there! I was in the art contest-ish room, and they had the kids craft conor. They had a small board where kids put their finnished art peices- and some one had did a picture of John and Yoko. I thought that was sooo cute. Then when I was looking at all the buttons ( in the shopping center thing), there was this little blond girl, around 4 or 5. She was with a younger woman. The older woman asked the girl if she wanted a button and the little girl replies " Oooh! Mommy! I want the Paul Mccartney one!" in the cutest little voice ever. Little things like that make my heart melt.

Same thing with my brother. My little brother, Mikey, is mentally disabled. He's got Autsim- if any of you are familar with it. ( Jane Asher's real involved with Autism, nice work Janey!) The other day, I was doing some house work. I often will put on an Athology DVD to listen to while I clean. It came to the " Hello, Goodbye" bit on #7. I hummed along to the song as I washed dishes. Then, next thing I know, Mikey's standing in front of the tele - clapping his hands and bobbing his head back and forth.

Turn's out, he now completely loves the song. He always smiles when George comes on screen ( I think maybe since George's in a orange uniform and Mikey loves orange things). So, now, he always wakes me up in the middle of the night and goes " Yes, no. I want Yes, no". ( he calls it "Yes, No" ) The other day, I actually took a picture of him watching it because my mom didnt believe me that he liked it.

So, any young fan encounters?

( Of course, I'm not counting myself. I'm 13. I'm a Beatle fan. Yay. Power to me.)

There were lots of cute kids at Beatlefest, as always. A couple of them stopped at the table where we were signing books and talked with us for a while. It always amazes me just how smart kids who are into the Beatles are... They're always so bright!

no doubt that bright people like the Beatles, and the fact that young kids are discovering them just goes to show how excellent and timeless their music is.

Hey, Marmalade, Beatlebangs knows a child with a similar condition who was also affected in a positive way by George songs. You might find her discussing this in the forum archives or in Crackerbox Palace, very interesting.

My son is 6 1/2 and has been a Beatle fan since birth! He just LOVES them...when he was really little and didn't know the names of the albums or songs, he used to call the two Past Masters CDs and the "1" CD "Black Beatles," "White Beatles" and "Red Beatles" respectively, and he would request them in the car. Now he's a full-fledged fan, has his own boombox and a couple of CDs of his own, and absolutely loves them! He's been to one Fest with me and my husband, but we expect to be taking him for many years to come.

I think it is important to pass the Beatles on to the next generation.

My cousin, now seven, is a "Yellow Submarine" fan since he was about four. It was my 'fault', I confess - I rented the movie and called him to see it with me and another Beatlefan was born...

Well, I was a young Beatle fan myself, daughter of two first-generation fans - so you see that this thingie might as well be contagious!

I know how you feel... I started liking the Beatles (it started as a sudden obsession) when I was eleven... in what? 1995 or something? It was hard, but I finally realized that it didn't matter what other people though (even adults thought I was weird!). And my little 6m. old nephew loves to watch the Anthology with me. i hope he grows up to be the biggest Beatles fan yet!

Well, my kids are 12 and 13, and are now full-fledged Beatle fans. It all started gradually, as their music was always playing, with me being a fan, but they really got into them heavily about 3 years ago. They're not the only ones at their school either, as they've seen others walking around with Beatle t-shirts, or hoodies, and I even saw one walking home with a Beatles "Help" lunch box!
I was also amazed at how many young fans there were at this latest fest. During the Liverpool concert on Saturday night, we were sitting in the front right near the left side by the dance floor there - and there were loads of young kids - ranging in age from 5-12 - dancing to the music and having the time of their life! There were also quite a few teens and pre-teens at the 'teen scene" who were happy to see other fans there that were their own age, and sharing stories etc.
I hate to sound like an 'old fogey' or anything, but when I hear some of these other modern songs on the radio today, I"m appalled at some of the lyrics I'm hearing. (not ALL songs; some are pretty decent!) I'm so glad my own kids aren't into that, and that other young kids are getting into the Beatles too. It's nice to see.

That kid's lucky I didn't see him/her with it. I would have haggled for hours. I'm a proud owner of a Sgt Pepper and a Abbey Road lunchboxes.

Amen! Some of these songs these days, woah! Every song's the same, really. When you sum it up it comes too - I like to go get pissed with my friends in clubs, woman's arses, and shooting people. But, I have to repect other's opinions. You like that sorta thing- ok. You like your things and I like mine.

I wish I could've been like that when I was 6! I think that's great

Ah, my little nephew. He's eight, and, thanks to me, a full-fledged Beatlemaniac. He recently rought home a guitar he can play about as well as I can (which is to say, we can make sounds come from the strings and that's about all), so he puts on my Beatle wig, knockoff Beatle boots and round purple sunglasses claiming to be John. Almost painfully cute, even if he can get a bit annoying. His favorite movie is Help!, he's always stealing my rings and pretending they're stuck on his finger going, "I can't get it off! *stomp stomp* It's got to come off!"

Also, I FULLY beleive that I was born in the wrong decade, as I behave like a 1965 teenybopper myself. (Ask the A Hard Day's Night poster I've kissed many times, and my drawing mannequin named Fred whom I positioned like he's crossing Abbey Road.)

I am 13 and I have been a beatle fam my whole life. I met my best friend through the beatles and all we ever talk about is the beatles. we are really close too, the only thing we ever fight about is who is better: John or George.
I LOVE the beatles and I am always listening to their music and I take every quiz out there and read every book and do anything dealing with the beatles. I have countless puzzles and figurines and posters and things like that.

I'm 13 too, and my best friend is also 13. We became friends because we had to work on a school project together, and that's when we found out we both LOVED the BEATLES!! We started singing all their songs and talking about them, playing their CD's and doing other Beatles things like watching their movies at each other's house. The first day we became friends, he asked if I wanted to go to dinner with him and his parents at Fuddruckers, because they had a cool Beatle booth there, but we had to get there early to get it. And we DID! He recently moved to Arkansas so I miss having him around every day. but he was just here visiting for Labor Day weekend. We made a tape singing I am the Walrus, and Here Comes the Sun. My other friend, who is almost 16, is starting to like the Beatles too. He plays Day Tripper on the guitar and I drum along with him. More and more of my friends are liking the Beatles.

I'm 12, and there's another kid in my school that wears a Beatle shirt a lot. When I wear a Beatle shirt, he says "Hey I like your shirt". It turned out that he got his at the Beatlefest too, but last year. Also, during passing period, they play music during the last minute to let you know that you have 1 more minute to get to class or you'll be late. Well, almost all last year, they played Beatle music! They played mostly all the songs from the Hard Day's Night CD.
Also, last week in music class, my teacher asked us all to bring in a CD. I overheard one of the girls say she was going to bring in a Beatles CD! I brought Sgt. Pepper. That's two of us that brought Beatles and there may be more.

I forgot to mention that when I started sixth grade two years ago, there were posters all over that said "You may say I'm a Dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will live as one ~ John Lennon."
First I just saw it on the Student Service Center door, then I saw them all over, like in the halls, and other doors. And they played beatle music between classes. I think my school likes the Beatles!!

I'm 16 and I've been a fan since I was 10. I still have to laugh when I think back to my parents saying to 10-year-old me, "Don't waste your money buying Beatles CDs; it's just a phase you're going through."

I'm not quite as obsessed as I used to be, and actually I'm happy for that. But I'm still glad to have the reputation of "Beatles Kid" at school.

I don't know if I count as a "young" fan anymore lol. I'm 17, turning 18 in a few months. It's really great to read the above posts about so many fans being hooked on the Beatles from such a young age! I only became a fan when I was 12 or so, and I feel I missed many years when I could have been learning and listening to the Beatles music.

Susan, I like what you said and completely agree. I think it's really important we help pass on the Beatles legacy to our kids, or neices and nephews, or the little children next door, whatever it may be...

Aw, sorry Pinky! I imagine you must be disappointed about that, but at least you're into them now, that's still better than not discovering their magic at all.
