Tribute bands
Hello, on March 9th I went to a Get Back! concert. they are a tribute band, and I thought they were incredible!!!!!!!!!! It was soooo much fun, anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had been to a beatle tribute band concert, and if it was any good.

Re: Tribute bands
I've currently seen 2 tribute bands to date. The Fab Beatles and The Other Beatles. Both bands were brilliant. They were just like the real thing and really got you into the mood.

Re: Tribute bands
I've seen zillions of them, it seems, both amazing and awful. I'm an amateur (very!) musician with a very good ear, so I'm really picky about this stuff. Musically, I'm very fond of American English - they have an incredible "Paul guy" - but some of their fans scare me. Saw 1964 a few months ago; they had nice harmonies, but their Paul guy was weak. Hmmm...Can you tell who my favorite Beatle is by these comments?? Have seen tons of others at Beatlefest and around town and it can be a great time if you don't take it too seriously!

Re: Tribute bands
There's one this weekend at the Meadowlands in North Jersey. Friday and Sat night they are having Liverpool, who is supposed to be a premier tribute band. Sunday at 5 pm there is a battle of the Beatle bands 40 bands one of which is my band (I'm from Jersey). www.beatlefest.com will give details and give a link to listen to the festivities live on the net.

Re: Tribute bands
And we'll be sure to check in on it, Jtal!
Tribute bands I've seen are 1964, Abbey Road, Liverpool and Beatlemania. Out of these, Beatlemania is the best, with Liverpool a close second.

Re: Tribute bands
I have got to see more of these bands, after all, it is the closest thing to see the beatles that I can get. I also need to go to a beatles fest some time, where and when do they happen?

There's one in New Jersey around this time of year, one in Chicago in August and one out on the west coast usually in November.

Re: Tribute bands
cool, in the band that I saw, Get Back, John looked exactly like John!! It was creepy, he had the same nose and everything, and towards the end he wore a completely white outfit, had the long hair, and the granny sunglasses. Woah, it was amazing how much he looked like John.

Re: Tribute bands
I'm not really into the lookalike thing, but I know most people seem to be. I almost see the costumes as a distraction to the music or a gimmick, and the last thing Beatles music needs is a gimmick! But then again, my friend's band tripled their income when they went the costume route and hey! We all have to make a living.....

Re: Tribute bands
By remarking on John's costume I didn't mean to sound as if that was the best thing about the band. Actually, the best thing was the fact that they played exactly like the beatles, the "paul" and "george" played especially well.

Re: Tribute bands
I've seen 1964 about 4 times. They are good, but the guy who plays Paul is VERY weak. I also saw the Broadway musical "Beatlemania", which had to be the closest thing to the Beatles besides the Beatles themselves.

Re: Tribute bands
I recently saw Beatlemania Now, and thought that musically they were fantastic. I don't go for the imitation part of it. Too schlock for me.

I agree. When I saw them, "Paul" looked more like Billy Joel.

Har-har...I'm glad to hear others agree with me on this point. He was fine on the sweet songs, but just wasn't up to the rockers.

the concert I saw was also called "Beatlemania", but I don't know if it was the same thing. Was the musical just singing, or did it also have acting in it?

Sorry if I sounded a bit snobby about that, S.F.! It's a bit of a sore subject with me and I got a little too defensive! Forgive me! I have nothing against costumes as long as the band is good musically! It's when they hide poor musicianship behind costumes and stage props that drives me nuts!

Re: Tribute bands
Don't worry, none offense taken, I know what you mean by the all looks, no talent thing, it drives me insane too. The guy who was Paul in this band had a terrible voice, oh god..it was horrid, but he played bass so incredibly well, that it made up for everything else. And he could sing backing vocals very well, so songs like Day Tripper and Nowhere Man sounded amazing.

The Beatlemania I saw was just musical... with Mitch Weissman as Paul.
