Re: Halloween Costumes
Susan,
My nephew went as SpongeBob last year. My prother-in-law made the costume out of a cardboard box. He painted SpongeBob on the box and cutout eyes and armholes and my nephew just had to put the box over his head. My son Nick went as Thomas the tank engine last year. My sister helped me design the costume. It turned out really well. I have no idea yet what the kids or I should dress up as this year. I do like both the magic eight ball and static cling ideas. Really cute!

Re: Halloween Costumes
I read an joke one time about a Halloween costume in which a young man wearing absolutely nothing other than a pair of pants. I don't think I'll tell you what he claimed to be, though ...

Re: Halloween Costumes
Here is a cute idea:
Go as a bag of jelly beans (kind of Beately).
Just cut leg holes in a large, clear plastic bag and fill the bag around your body with colorful balloons (don't blow them up too much, keep 'em small). Tie at the neck with a ribbon and hang a tag off that says, JELLY BEANS.
I saw some kid dressed this way last year, and it was adorable. Her brother, who is wheelchair bound, was Santa, with a papier mache "elf" on his lap. So cute!

Re: Halloween Costumes
Just yesterday I went as a mod to a costume party, gogo boots, a miniskirt(I felt so naked), the whole lot.
In past years I've been Janis Joplin (my mum wouldn't let me carry around a bottle of Southern Comfort though, not even an empty one), Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, a hippy, and other such characters I could create by raiding my closet, my mothers, and maybe a trip to Goodwill or a fabric store.

I know what you mean. I got a handbag with a British flag from on it last July (before 9-11), and now people think I'm being unpatriotic, or supporting terrorism or something -- just because I'm not plastered with the US flag.

You can't really blame them, though can you, what with all those British terrorists commiting their acts of terrorism all over America. I mean, it's only natural...

Re: Halloween Costumes
My daughter wanted to be a fairy princess one year (like 20 years ago,LOL) and I found a really cheesy bridesmaid dress at the Goodwill or Salvation Army store, can't remember which. As hideous as this dress was to the poor lady who had to wear it to someone's wedding, it made a perfect, over the top "princess" dress for a little girl, complete with hoop skirt and puffy sleeves in a garish pink color. Try Salvation Army or another 2nd hand store--I've seen lots of these dresses in those places since then.
