Somewhere in England LP...
Does anyone have any detailed info on this album regarding original cover and tracklistings? All I know is some exec didn't think it was commercial enough and got Harrison to replace 4 songs. Was it just the front cover that was changed or both the front and back?

Taken from this page
Dark Horse DRC-49725 May 6, 1981
In 1980, Ringo had been working on an album called (at the time) Can't Fight Lightning. For that album, George contributed a couple of songs, including "All Those Years Ago." The lyrics were different then, and Ringo eventually excluded the song. After John's murder, George rewrote the lyrics, and it was released as a tribute to Lennon. In fact, some jukebox "timing strips" show the song as by "George, Paul, Ringo" instead of "George Harrison." While some people bemoaned the lyrics, the song jumped to #2 and remained George's definitive statement about what had happened in December of 1980.
I think both the front and the back sleeve were changed. And the rejected songs were later released in two LPs called "Songs By George Harrison" or something like that. That page has some info on it.

One of the rejected songs, 'Lay His Head', was used on the B-side of single 'Got My Mind Set on You' in 1987.

I'll say!! I am quite certain back cover will be different. I dream of finding this record one day. (That and the butcher cover.) I heard of one guy who picked up a butcher cover in a junk shop for something like $5.

Re: Somewhere in England LP...
I know this one chap who apparently bought a stereo butcher cover for £1, but I don't believe him. Must be a fake. No seller in their right minds would sell it for that!

Re: Somewhere in England LP...
If I saw one for that kind of money, I think I would buy it and work out if it genuine later.

Re: Somewhere in England LP...
Hello everyone. I have this album, the withdrawn "Somewhere In England" with alternate cover and tracklisting, and have been looking to sell it; does anyone have an idea of value? It is in excellent condition, in the record collecting definition of the word, with promo wording on the label.
Thanks,
beau

Re: Somewhere in England LP...
Hi, thanks for your reply.
There is a famous saying, "there are two types of people in this world; Elvis people and Beatle people". I'd argue that there is a third type; a lover of both;-)
The record I refer to is the black sleeved one with the 4 tracks that were later dropped. No one seems to know the value. Well, one person told me $400-600 USD.

Re: Somewhere in England LP...
If there are any hardcore Beatle/Harrison collectors out there who could give me an approximate value of this record, please post, or point me in the direction of an internet resource. Thanks.

Re: Somewhere in England LP...
I believe that the original declined LP (coversleeve + LP) would make about 250$ at least at auctions during Beatles conventions and/or at E-Bay related sites.

After playing slide on 'Love Letters' by Bill Wyman, the next expected guest appearance is on Jim Capaldi's 'Anna Julia' to be released September next.
