I had a co-worker who attended this concert. This particular co-worker said she'd gotten trashed and the concert was a blur to her. Damn shame. If you had a chance to see the Beatles and blew it because you were wasted, then that is very unfortunate.

Add to it that I didn't think much of this particular co-worker who had a boatload of issues.

Yeah, someone threw a firecracker at the matinee. Here's what Tony Barrow had to say about the incident: "[E]verybody, all of us at the side of the stage, including the three Beatles on stage, all looked immediately at John Lennon. We would not at that moment have been surprised to see that guy go down. John had half-heartedly joked about the Memphis concert in an earlier press conference, and when we got there everything seemed to be controlled and calm, but underneath somehow, there was this nasty atmosphere. It was a very tense and pressured kind of day."

In the photo, the audience looks a little pressured itself. They don't look much like they're having fun...

i did not realize the firecracker went off in the afternoon. i have seen a movie that started out with a scene depicting this concert. i think it was a made for tv movie about john and yoko.....wish i could remember the name ...time to browse for it soon on imdb.com.

it a shame my southern brethren could not behave themselves.
i do know people who do still not like the beatles because of 1966. very conservative people and they loved e., sam cooke and so forth....i do too but they are all older than me and have their ways.

It's "John and Yoko A Love Story" starring Mark McGann as Lennon. It's reasonably good.

I saw a YouTube video, due to the hostile atmosphere in '66, extra security was added and they traveled in military transportation. I thought, wow this is serious! Not to mention the threats from the KKK. they thought the firecraker was a gunshot.

I was at both concerts. The screaming took care of any sounds of fireworks, but scary looks from all four! Southern Baptists had called for an 'album burning' that day, and now I wonder how many wish they still had those albums they trashed! No cameras were allowed inside and since I was only 16 I was afraid to test security. Would not trade living in the 60s for anything. Lived, breathed Beatles!

I often wonder that, myself! When I see the footage of all that memorabilia gong into the trash and bonfires, I shake my head at how ignorant people could have been.....

Ignorant is right. When I was a very young child I said that "going to church doesn't mean you're good." It makes me ill to this day the sinful waste of that Beatles' paraphrenalia and that self-righteous demagoguery!

A few years ago a recording of this show went up for auction. It was recorded by two young gals. The cherry bomb went off in the evening show during If I needed Someone.

yeah that page has a snippet of the bomb going off...but i can load everything on that page but that file.

says he recently changed web hosting and some things are still in transition.
it played earlier in the week. so he is aware..hope he has it backed up...is a pretty historical mark in the Band's History...if you watch the interview they gave in Memphis..they were getting tired of touring. a bomb going off while you're playing...just may have drove the nail home about let's stop touring.
