a song from ppm that didnt make early beatles like misery? i know misery doesnt fit but that never bothered capital fatcats before...
sie libt dich even,,

i sorta grew up with usa albums actually older siblings bought the albums...
i rember thinking wow only two john songs on revolver..i had no idea about british albums till later on...i thought john had crumbled on jesus remark ha ha..hey i was real young...

Well, actually, I think the people who put these albums together actually did do some thinking. Most of the Capitol albums--at least to my ears--feel like the songs work together as a collection.

In paticular, Yesterday...and Today is a collection that makes sense when I hear it. The Revolver tracks are not keyboard-driven or extremely experimental. Of course, they basically took whatever EMI London would give them, which in this case was the most "traditional Beatle-sounding" tracks from Revolver.

As for the "Paperback Writer/Rain" single, that's a good point. It would have fit OK on Yesterday...and Today, but I always felt like "Paperback Writer" sounded like an attempt to recreate a riff-driven rocker like "Day Tripper", and I think it would have sounded a little redundant to have had both of those on one Capitol album.

Yeah... I always felt that "Y&T" flowed well as an ALBUM.

When I was a kid, I appreciated it as a "compilation" LP (the album title kind'a gave that away). But it was hard to notice.

As far as the "Paperback Writer"/'Rain" question... Hmmmm, don't know. But I don't think those two tracks would really have worked as well on that album as the UK "Revolver" tracks that were used.

I grew up with the Capitol Albums, as well. The fact that George had more songs on "Revolver" than John did blew my mind a little, too.
