Default "America's 20 Prettiest Towns"

Here is a nice story + very nice picture slide show of what Forbes Traveler considers the 20 prettiest American towns.

I was very surprised to see the resemblance to my own village and many towns in Europe when I saw the picture from a shopping street, with market + church in Burlington, Vt.

It's even made by a man with a very Dutch family name. Oh, there's a Ben & Jerry's there on the right

Also the picture from Mendocino could be from many European coast lines.

Enjoy

You have excellent taste Although, ask me again tomorrow when I'm stuck on 93 and I may give you a big, fat I definitely agree with you about New England. It really is gorgeous, especially in the Fall. Boston's just the cream of the crop!

I also find it rather hilarious that they name Savannah, GA, to the list but neglect to mention that there's a giant papermill there that makes the place stink like cabbage and rotten eggs! You can smell Savannah about 2 miles before you see it.

I think there is nothing like New England, Burlington Vt; is gorgeous, Porstmouth NH absolutely scenic, you can't beat the small towns all up and down the upper east coast of New England and when fall season comes in with the leaf changes on trees, they are just stunning, Ben & Jerry's is ok, but the Green Mountains of Vermont are glorious.

Here is a little town near where I lived in New Hampshire (gorgeous), after living near Boston, one of BB1964's favorite places!

Here's a little snippet of Portland Maine, another of BB1964 and my favorite cities in New England

Out of all the cities in Arizona they listed, Sedona wasn't there. I love love LOVE Sedona. It is absolutely gorgeous there! I was surprised it didn't make the list.

I've done that drive through Mendocino and it is truly a sight to behold. It kind of makes you wonder if this is how California was suppose to look before it got all built up. You see all the redwoods and the cute little old towns. It's almost like you're thrown into another dimension of time.

Sedona Arizona is beautiful, but it has nothing on Boston.

Burlington VT is a good choice.

We can't forget about Boston.

I'm amazed how much Boston resembles Stockholm in so many ways. Here's a picture from Charles River Park.

Another city I think is pretty is Monterey or Carmel, California. John Steinbeck wrote about it in a lot of his books. Its so pretty. I used to live about 1 1/2 hours and we would go about once a month.

Claudio if you make to New England/Boston, drive route 1 from Rhode Island to Maine, you will encounter some big cities but a lot of it is remote areas and small towns along the coast, some small fishing villages, great little eateries and gorgeous scenery, take a week or more to do it though!

I love Andover BB1964, my Dad used to work in Andover, many moons ago! Great college town, I don't know if they still do it but the Patriots used to have their pre-season workouts there!

Isn't that beautiful? That's just what a church should look like, IMO.

here is a picture of the Old North Church in Boston...

here's a little history on it:

Known as "Christ Church in the City of Boston," this Episcopal church was built in 1723 and is Boston's oldest Church building.
On the steeple of this church, Robert Newman signaled with lanterns the approach of the British regulars; "One if by land, and two, if by sea".
The steeple is 191 feet tall, making it the tallest steeple in Boston. It is also the first set of bells ever brought to America. Paul Revere was one of the neighborhood bellringers. The interior high box pews and brass chandeliers, as well as the Church's first clock are all original.

that should be Paul Revere's statue in the foreground.

That's a nice picture and also whilst reading a little about Paul Revere because the name rings a bell...so to speak...from the music scene in the 60's, but this one's life story is quite interesting.

Also those New England ones are quite pretty.
