Great bass line, but other than that, ugh. I think I partially dislike it because it was over played SO much on the radio when it was popular that it turned me off of it.

Ok, I'm going to try picking again....how about "Backwards Traveller" from "London Town"?

Some of you might have figured out that I have a certain affection for this song....

It's cute, but too short. He should have expanded on the idea, I think.

Very good pick. You're right, Rell' it's much too short. Wonder if he has a longer version of it lying around somewhere?

It is a short song, but I like it.

Backwards Traveller

Hey, did you know that I'm
Always going back in time?
Rhyming slang, "Auld Lang Syne," my dears
Through the years.

I am the backwards traveller,
Ancient wool unraveller,
Sailing songs, wailing on the moon.

I am the backwards traveller,
Ancient wool unraveller,
Sailing songs, wailing on the moon.
Wailing on the moon.

And we were sailing songs,
Wailing on the moon,
We were wailing on the moon.

Guess we should continue on with another song here. Today's song is a loving tribute to someone that was very close to Paul for quite a while. Paul was not afraid to put his feelings into this song.

Here Today

And if I said I really knew you well,
What would your answer be
If you were here today?
Ooh, ooh, ooh, here today.

Well, knowing you, you'd probably laugh and say
That we were worlds apart,
If you were here today.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, here today.

But as for me, I still remember how it was before
And I am holding back the tears no more.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, I love you, ooh.

What about the time we met?
(What about the time?)
Well, I suppose that you could say that we were playing hard to get.
Didn't understand a thing
But we could always sing.

What about the night we cried?
(What about the night?)
Because there wasn't any reason left to keep it all inside.
Never understood a word,
But you were always there with a smile.

And if I say I really loved you
And was glad you came along,
Then you were here today.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, for you were in my song.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, here today.

Lovely choice, bearkat. I like this one because it's so simple and straightforward. Paul's version of this in concert is simply beautiful.

Everything about it is sooooo good !

But what really tugs at my heart is George Martin's poignant arrangement !

Today's song comes from the same album, Tug Of War. One of my favorites on this album.

Take It Away

Take it away, want to hear you play till the lights go down.
Take it away, don't you wanna stay till there's no one else around?
Take it away, want to hear you play till the lights go down.
Take it away, don't you wanna stay till there's no one else around?

Lonely driver, out on the road, with a hundred miles to go.
Sole survivor, carrying the load, switches on his radio.

Take it away, want to hear you play till the lights go down.
Take it away, don't you wanna stay till there's no one else around?
Mm, take it away, want to hear you play till the lights go down. (down, down)
Take it away, don't you wanna stay till there's no one else around?

In the audience, watching the show with a paper in his hand, (in his hand, in his hand)
Some important impresario has a message for the band, ooh.

Take it away, want to hear you play till the lights go down.
Take it away, don't you wanna stay till there's no one else around?

You never know who may be listening to you.
You never know who may be listening to you.
You never know who may be listening to you.
Take it away, take it away.

After hours, late in the bar, by a darkened corner seat.
Faded flowers, wait in the jar, till the evening is complete. (complete, complete)
Aah,
Aah,
Aah.

I LOVE "Take it Away" (and I love the video too), but I think it would have been even better if it would have ended with the chorus and not the "ah ah ah" bit at the end. Just me being an editor again.

Great choice! We did a parody on this one years ago and called is "Put it back". The video for "Take it away" is so nice!

Today's song was not a new experience for Paul. Writing a song for a movie is just one of the many things Paul has done over the years. Originally, the producers for this movie wanted someone else to record the song but Paul told them that if they wanted him to write it, then he was going to sing it. Seeing Paul perform this number live is a real treat.

Live And Let Die

When you were young and your heart was an open book,
You used to say life and let live.
(You know you did, you know you did, you know you did)
But if this ever-changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry,

Say live and let die!
(Live and let die)
Live and let die!
(Live and let die)

What does it matter to you?
When you got a job to do,
You got to do it well.
You got to give the other fellow hell!

You used to say life and let live.
(You know you did, you know you did, you know you did)
But if this ever-changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry,

Say live and let die!
(Live and let die)
Live and let die!
(Live and let die)

"Live and Let Die" IS great in concert, but I could live without it the rest of the time, to tell you the truth. I like the middle part the best.

Before I met my husband, the only James Bond movie I'd ever seen was "Live and Let die". And that was only for the opening credits. Wonder why?

Ok, I'm going to pick again - a somewhat obscure one that somehow also seems to be a favorite of a lot of Paul fans (including me)..."Daytime Nighttime Suffering". Love the bass lines - awesome! Good words too - I've felt like that before. Only thing I question about this song is do the verses and the choruses have ANYTHING to do with each other? They seem like completely different ideas to me.

Rell, why does it not surprise me that you'd be interested in the bass line? (sorry folks, private joke)

Good pick, tho'.

Oh goody! Looks like I can pick today's song. My pick is from "Flaming Pie". The song is "Calico Skies". It's a fairly short song, 2:29, but quite beautiful. I think it's a wonderful love song. Hope you think so, too!

I especially like the fact that Paul kept it simple. He should do that more often !

This is a really pretty song, one of my favorite love songs (and I'm not generally that big on love songs) just because it IS simple. And I like the fact that through the whole song, he sings "hold you" and then at the very very end, changes it to "love you". Sweet.
