It hit $4.00 around here recently. (I'm glad I'm not in L.A. paying your prices hof). The biggest problem is, that if you are outside of the Northeast or say Chicago, you can't even fall back to public transportation which I gladly would. The cities are laid out specifically for automobile traffic within much of the country and public transportation is minimal if not impossible to efficiently fit the model.

Paid $4.59 last night.

I guess "$5 a gallon by 4th of July" doesn't seem so impossible by this point.

5 dollars by July 4 is the rumor here in So-Cal, I know what you mean dav. My brother's here from Colorado and he says where he lives, in the south-east part of the state, the gas is $3.99, he was quite shocked at the prices here.

I don't know how things run economically or politically, but can't the government step in and help their citizens in this? This seems to be putting just more pressure on the average citizen. I've heard of violence at the gas pumps. Are prices all over the world going up? I imagine they are.

We (Europe) measure fuel in litres. How much would you pay for 1 litre of fuel?

I paid $4.59 too. I was looking at a website to find cheap gas and when I found a place near me that had gas for $4.49 I was happy, but then I got there it was $4.69, luckily it wasnt too far away.

LOL! Don't jump!

If you're willing to visit lovely Newark, NJ, this evening's price was $3.89/gal. for regular.

A US gallon is roughly 4 liters, so simply divide by 4.

Oh. That means the fuel in the US is cheaper than in Europe.

Be lucky you don't live in the UK. Here we're paying 1.18 per litre. Since 1 gallon is 4.546 litres that mean's the UK are paying 5.36 a gallon, or $10. Something like 60%+ of the price we pay on fuel is duty that goes straight into the governments pocket... and then we pay Value Added Tax of 17.5% on top of that again.

We're paying more than double than you in America. Today it cost me 29.60 / $58 to top up my car when it was half empty. If It was the full doozie I'd be looking at about $120 to fill it up completely.

Harb, I have a question. Has gas been going up as fast in the UK as in the US? Just wondering. I dont know since we dont hear much about the price of foreign gas here on the news.

I hear that people are getting so desperate to save money buying gas. Some people are stashing gas now, which is very hazardous. Others are stealing from peoples' cars at night. Meanwhile, I hear that the citizens who live close to the Mexican border in California are driving down to Mexico to fill up their gas for about $2.00 a gallon.

I began to drive really slow 1 month ago, in order to save gas.
Also because the government increased penalty for speeding and other violations.
Now I rarely drive more than the limit (130km/h) - only if I'm in a hurry.

I have heard though that some people who have done that have problems with the gas, and also that sometimes they have to wait in traffic for 2-3 hours to come back across the border.
