R&R HOF Class of 2006
The R&R HOF has announced the 2006 Inductees. Black Sabbath, Blondie, Sex Pistols, Lynard Skynard and (UGH) Miles Davis. Every year the inductee list is weaker and weaker....this years is no exception. Why Oh Why? are they inducting Miles Davis?....This is NOT a jazz HOF. Last year they cheapened the Rockhall with Guy Buddy or whatever his name is! This year they further ruined their creditability by inducting Miles Davis. What is in store for us next year .....The Carpenters, Husker Du or maybe Milli Vanilli? I think they should change the name of the place to the Hall of Shame.
Quick......Can you name even one song (much less a HIT song) by either Buddy or Miles? I rest my case!

Yes.
Taking this a bit hard aren't we? Miles may not be "rock", but he's definitley one of the 20th centurys most important musicians and helped pioneer jazz rock fusion, he also had an influence over many non jazz musicians,The Allmans,Hendrix and many more.(Also was a friend of John and Yoko) I don't think the rock hall is just inducting "Rock" musicians anymore, there inducting more and more important figures from all areas of music and Miles is certainly one of them. And besides what does it all mean anyway? Just because Miles Davis and Buddy Guy got in the rock hall or other musicians who aren't "rock" have also got in (and will continue to) is that really going to take away from your enjoyment of the music?

I think that looks like a pretty good class.
As for Miles, I am personally not a fan, but I recognize his importance and his influence on other musicians. And as for Buddy Guy, the importance of a lot of older blues artists and how they have influenced rock and roll should not be underestimated. When guys like Eric Claton and BB King are singing your praises, you must be pretty stinking great.
Congrats to the inductees. As always, I look forward to watching the induction ceremony in March.

I would have no complaints if the name of the place was 'The Music Hall of Fame'. Example: The SONGWRITERS HOF can induct anyone who writes songs from any genre, no problem.
I would have no problem if they inducted Buddy or Miles as a 'early influence'. "Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys", Nat King Cole and Louie Armstrong were all inducted as 'early influences'. Tho none of these greats were rock and roll, they did influence those who came after them. Buddy and Miles are not rock and roll, but they did influence those who came after them.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is that the R&R HOF has strayed away from their original 'mission'.

Point taken. But since most of the big legendary names are in already or will be in the future, The HOF still needs people to induct every year and since they already have many "rock" artists, they are going to compensate by having artists from other genres who have shaped popular music. The rock and roll hall of fame imo is just an umbrella of sorts for all musical styles and we'll probably see more of that in the years to come.Although I'm not saying the Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears deserve induction,(assembly line music like that dosen't) there are many artists from the world of "Pop" who deserve to be honored in such a way,for their music and impact even if all it means really is getting a nice statue.
