Thom Yorke says Sgt Pepper is \'a complete mess\'
Radiohead's Thom Yorke thinks the Beatles' classic album Sergeant Pepper is "a complete mess."
The singer dismissed the Fab Four's effort when asked about his band's new album, Amnesiac.
Yorke said the Beatles had put the songs on Sergeant Pepper regardless of whether they fit together.
Yorke told the Daily Record he opted to split the songs from Radiohead's Kid A recording sessions over two distinct albums.
He said: "This is a three-year period of creativity and to chuck out one album at the end is ridiculous. We have left it to people to pick up the pieces and, may I add, Sergeant Pepper is a complete mess!"

Well, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no matter how ridiculous the rest of us think it might be.

Re: Thom Yorke says Sgt Pepper is \'a complete mess\'
I suspect Thom Yorke mean this tongue in cheek !
......A couple of years ago in Mojo Magazine, he stated that he goes back time and time agai to "A Day In The Life" and admires the removed aura Lennon puts over in the lyrics and delivery. Claiming the song was a touchstone for him.
He also compltely ripped off the cord structure of "Sexy Sadie" foe parts of "Karma Police" just as an aside :-)

It's classic rock rebellion!
Besides the Beatles may not mean a THING to this guy. He's entitled to his view. We're entitled to ours.
It was probabily ridiculous to compare music recorded 34 years apart.
In the produce department of life, it's all small potatoes.

Re: Thom Yorke says Sgt Pepper is \'a complete mess\'
Can't say that I like "Sgt. Pepper" much, in fact I don't like the music the Beatles were making in that year,1967, when I listen to the music before or after 1967 it still sounds timeless and new to me, okay it was an important album at that time, but it sounds outdated to me. Except for Johns's big three, "Strawberry fields","A day in the life" and "I'm the walrus" not a year with good beatles songs. Imo "Sgt. peppers" is overrated, others had better albums out like "Day's of future past" by the Moody Blues.

Some interesting points are being made here, and I like the album a lot. The songs, with the exception of the Reprise, are not a cohesive collection as claimed. The overall sound production is groundbreaking and that's what makes it an important record. Even in A Day In The Life they combined 2 songs that don't really mean anything together.
Beam me up also.
