George and Los Angeles
George had a special relationship with Los Angeles. It's also said LA was George's home away from home. He had Maui, and Switzerland, Australia, many places he loved. But it is notable that (notes from "I, Me, Mine") George had inspiration from LA to write 7 songs. England is only referenced 9 times, which makes LA a close 'second place'. Both Hawaii and India are mentioned 3 times, New York and Virgin Islands 2 times, and single mentions include: Bangla Desh (of course), Sweden, Woodstock, France, and Ireland.
Olivia is from Los Angeles, when Patti left she came to her sister in 74...in Los Angeles. George allegedly asked Carol Bedford (Apple Scruff) to move into an apartment in Los Angeles so they could 'date,' lol. George set up Dark Horse here in Burbank. George passed over to the next life from Los Angeles.
For the songs...
1. Miss O'Dell~ was written from being inspired overlooking Malibu beach.
2. Blue Jay Way~ we all know the story. :)
3. Soft Hearted Hana~ melody was written in Los Angeles.
4. Learning How to Love You~ the Herb Albert story...in Los Angeles.
5. Crackerbox Palace~ Lord Buckley's original Crackerbox Palace ... was a broken down home in LA.
6. Tired of Midnight Blue~ this is inspired by a 'naughty LA club'...
7. Be Here Now~ written in Nichols Canyon.
Also George references California in writing about Piggies, that it is not about "Californian shagnasties"..hahahaha
I can understand George's being drawn here to LA. LA is the CITY he mentions most in the stories of inspiration. It is second in general only in mentions for England, but those references span several cities. Now we have a George Harrison tree in Griffith Park, too, which considering is really cool.
Thoughts???
I L.A.!

On the plus side, the joy the city brought to George when he was alive. "Blue Jay Way" - can't forget about that one.
In 1967, George and Patti visited Patti's sister Jenny, who was at that time living in Los Angeles. George and California appeared to be a good match. From L.A., the pair flew to the Golden City and hung out in Golden Gate Park a bit.

"it never rains in California" I would love to visit one time, I can see why LA inspired George, it's a magical big city, like NYC.

You know, when I first heard that song ("It Never Rains in Southern California") I thought that George sang it . Seriously, that was my first thought. Come to find out, someone named Albert Hammond sang it. I think it's a nice song and it sounds a bit like George.

Famous Harrison Impersonation? What does that mean? Anyway, I think it sounds somewhat like him, but I know it's not him. Another thing special about L.A. for George, is that Olivia grew up there (in Hawthorne).

Los Angeles, or "City of Angels" is very aptly named. George long decried the English rain and loved the warmer climes. I think he and California were a good match indeed.

I think she's joking about the part in Help! Where the guy from Scotland yard says he's a great mimic, and can do a "famous" James Cagney impression. Then he does a Ringo impression and George deadpans "Doesn't sound a bit like Cagney"

Maybe he did but he needed the English rain to create his beautiful gardens and I believe his heart was always here over anywhere else it was just the press that let him down here which is why he chose to pass over in LA.

I'm not sure that would be the reason for his chosing LA to pass over from? I had friends at UCLA medical center and I knew George was there just before retiring to the house he left from. At UCLA they received him thinking they could treat him further, then said they could not. That is allegedly what I heard at the time... before he actually passed.
I also think George wanted a conscious passing and that is why the NY treatments were helpful, that they did aide that?
It is definitely possible George wanted to be close to Yogananda's physical body as well as he passed. Guruji's body is at Forrest Lawn in LA and in fact was documented as incorruptable after passing- as happens to some saints as well. His body never experienced decay. I think being close to Guruji could have been very meaningful to George. But that is my opinion, not supported by facts, but by speculation, so... ?? It is just a 'feeling'...

This is beautilful HC and also how I feel about the motivations of George. Apart from Friar Park there would have been no other place of choise than Los Angeles, whereas George knew that India would be included in the journey.
I have strong positive feelings that indeed the presence of the SRF headquarters being situated in LA had to do with George's choise...
Which at the same time as since then given me and not only me such spiritual connections to LA and SRF...

I think George had a bond to the City of Angels; he wrote "Blue Jay Way" in 1967 as a nod to this beautiful West Coast City. He and Olivia have also instilled pride in the City of Angels; I have many relatives throughout the West Coast who can attest to that.
