It is very a propos that LA is honoring the youngest Fab. I wish my city was doing something to honor him.

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
I loyally listen to Breakfast with the Beatles, so as soon as I heard about this, I was so excited!!! Griffith Park is literally in my neighborhood, it takes five minutes to get there. I am hoping that my sole Beatle buddy will be able to come with me, but in any case, I think I'm going with my dad, who is experiencing a Beatles revival thanks to me. I'm so glad L.A. is doing this tribute to George, and I'm so glad I live in L.A.! I can't wait for Sunday!

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
Yeah, the parking will be a problem. The renovation of the Observatory means that at least 150 parking spaces are no longer there. I haven't been up there recently, but I think that the West Observatory Road is the street on which a successful parallel parking job means you didn't slam into the mountain, nor did you fall off the cliff. It's a tight little road, and I bet a lot of people will be fighting for those precious few spaces. Lower down I think there's more parking, near some tennis courts and right around the residential area, so you all might want to try around there if you can't snag a parking space.
Turns out I don't have to worry about parking, my dad just informed me he and I will be walking the whole way to get there. Because walking uphill is that much fun. Oh well, I'll do it for George!

Rain rain rain, I don't mind.
The weather's fine.
So, I'll just wear a hat and bring an umbrella. I wonder if the rain will put a damper on things. (Pardon the pun.) I could just see the special guests not showing because of it.

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
I'd be furious if the special guests didn't show up just because of rain. And not to jinx the weather on Sunday, but L.A. rain hardly ever gets to the torrential thunderstorms of other places. It drizzles every once in a while (like today), it rains sometimes, and occasionally it even pours. Every few months there might be a huge storm. So I'm hoping that Sunday's supposed rain showers are just light sprinkles, because I don't want George Harrison Day to get messed up.

I hope you all have a great time and don't let some rain keep you away

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
My, my. Was I the only Linker that went to this? I'm sorry to report that it was a bit of a disappointment, but not entirely horrible. Billy didn't show up because he was sick and there was an obnoxious lout there that I wanted to clobber . On the flip side, it didn't rain (but the sky threatened) and Olivia's sister was there and read a statement from the Harrisons, thanking us for coming, etc. Jackie Lomax was there, I guess in lieu of Billy , and performed a nice, heartfelt song he wrote for George. A George Harrison tree has been planted along with a nice, brass plaque in memoriam on top of Griffith Park. It was a nice day trip for myself but I felt I could have been doing something more constructive. But, it was all for George and that's worth a lot more than me doing my laundry. Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
BeatleMom, didn't you think it was too short? Unless it started before 3pm. I arrived about 10 minutes after three and it seemed that the festivites were only going on for maybe one hour. And, where the heck were The FabFour? Did I miss them?

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
It was short. I arrived at the site (after trekking up the hillside finding a parking spot) around 2:45. Ardy and Keith were already performing "unplugged". I thought it was going to be all of the Fab Four, and I was a bit disappointed. I didn't ask Ardy why only he was there, with The Fab Four's stand-in John Lennon. I was enjoying their performance regardless. But the official ceremony started at 3pm. Chris Carter started it off, councilman and council general to follow, and then a message from Olivia and Dhani by her sister Linda. A few more messages and then the media stepped in for photo ops. It was over by 3:30-3:40pm....and no rain!!!
I wish I could make it out to the star on Wednesday, but I just wouldn't make it out to Hollywood in time for the events.
Looking forward to tomorrow's releases of the Dark Horse collections.

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
Yes...the festivities was short, but I STILL had a great time...anything to do w/ the beatles-especially George, I will go to! I got there about 1:30pm. Ardy (btw-the memo said "members of the FabFour" would be there). It would have been nice if Michael (who does George) would have made an apperance tho...I too was disappointed that Billy didn't show up, but he was "feeling a bit under the weather" (no pun intended)so I understand. And yes, thank god it didn't rain (not till I was on the freeway going home). I enjoyed the music, speeches, and finally the UNVEILING of the plaque. Were you guys able to get a picture of it?
I took a couple of photos AFTER all the press/photographers got their shots in...I believe Olivia's sister name is Laura and she's a very nice lady. She said that Olivia and Dhani were on their way to New Dheli (sp?) for George's b-day. I will be there Wed evening for George's b-day celebration. Capitol Records make the coolest cakes

I would so much love to see any pictures anyone has.

Re: Los Angeles to honor Harrison Feb. 22
Hey HC..sure I will definitely send ya copies of the event, I just gotta get them developed first, so I will drop the film off this week for sure. Oh, I'm sorry that you could't make it too, but I understand about your son being sick, belive me, alittle awhile after the event, it started to rain. Oh...the plaque looks really nice and right beneath it, it has his OFFICIAL logo bronzed on. It's next to the tree that was planted a couple of years ago (seeing he was an avid gardner) and it's gotten really huge too.
