Heather plans legal action
LONDON (Reuters) - Heather Mills McCartney, estranged wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney, is to take legal action over a newspaper article alleging she worked as a prostitute in her twenties, her lawyers said on Tuesday.
"Heather is very distressed by this article," lawyers for the former model said after the weekend allegations in the News of the World tabloid. She called the article "untrue and highly defamatory."
The statement said Heather, who separated from her multi-millionaire husband last month, is recovering slowly from revision surgery on her leg which was amputated below the knee after a collision with a police motorcycle in 1993.
"She has suffered weight loss, anxiety and sleeping problems as a result of the stress and anxiety of the break-up of her marriage," the statement said.
But legal proceedings against the newspaper will be deferred until her divorce settlement is concluded, it added.
McCartney, 63, and Mills, 38, announced their separation last month, blaming media intrusion for the collapse of one of the most high-profile showbusiness marriages.
Legal experts believe that McCartney could lose up to a quarter of his estimated 825-million pound ($1.52 billion) fortune after separating from his second wife.
That would equate to roughly one million pounds for every week of their short-lived four-year marriage.

I think it's easiest for everyone if we keep as many Paul/Heather topics in Red Rose Speedway as possible, so I'll move this one there. Thanks for posting it!

I can't think of anything worse that someone could make up to write about me.
I know nothing about it and whether or not it is true but I do feel bad for her on this one.
The raunchy pics are one thing because they actually do exist but this is another because you never know with these often dodgy people that come forward.

Actually, the man who was quoted in many of these articles as being Adnan Khashoggi's personal secretary who said he personally paid Heather $12,000 is a fairly reliable source. His name is Abdul Khoury, and his testimony was used years ago to bring about charges in the Iran/Contra scandal.

Claiming someone was a prostitute is something that better darn well be true if you're going to print it. I have never heard anything even remotely like this about her, and she has every reason to press charges.

You never heard that she worked as a high-class call girl? That was all over the press from the beginning...that is another word for "prostitute." Sex for money, right?

No, I never heard that. Seems a little over the top, even for Heather, quite honestly.

You know, before all this happened, I couldn't have cared less about Heather one way or the other, but I'm starting to feel seriously sorry for the woman, whatever she has or hasn't done. The press is on a witch hunt. They have it in for her and want to completely annihilate her. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be her right now. They can't even take into consideration that there is a two year old child involved here, completely obliterating her mom is the number one priority. It floors me.

They all discovered this stuff now she is getting a divorce. Why didn't all this turn up before?Seems like to much of a coincidence that all these articles are apearing right after the announcement that Paul and Heather are divorcing.

@Legs: I too wonder why this all turns up now, funny little coincidence...
On the other hand, I think that Heather ( Iwonder why she doesn´t sue The Sun over the porn-photo stuff by the way, only The News Of The World over the prostitute stuff) won´t be very succesful this time. There are names involved, people who met her (like this man from the photoshots, I shall believe he speaks the truth - though I´d believe everyone more than Heather anyway).
I remember her saying "We get along greatly, I can´t wait to sue ´cause it´ll make a fortune for my charity!" when they wrote that Paul and she are having trouble...one week before HE announced the split. After this I automatically believe any of her "false accusations".
Lie once and no one ever belives you anymore.

Hate to say this is as predictable as it gets, but it is :(
From the moment The Sun placed that "Our Lawyers are Watching" warning on the first pictures posted, you knew they were in for a rollercoaster ride (The News of the World is The Sun's 'de facto' Sunday paper, for those who don't know). I suspect they had this material at hand ever since Heather showed up as Macca's love interest - it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Expect anything from now on - and I mean *anytning* really.

I wish the press would go gentle on Heather and not be so quick to find things to humiliate her. Whether or not this is true, it has nothing to do with her today. What relevance does this have now? The woman is undergoing a divorce. That seems to me the worst time to kick somebody while she's down. I think it is cruel and mean spirited of the press to hound her like this.

'Tis a fool who would spend such money on prostitutes;
'tis a bigger fool to do it and then tell the world about it.
