Yes that's "Don't look back in anger" great song! "Who feels love" is another superb song, maybe they do copy to much and sometimes it's to obvious that they're doing a beatle song, and we all know that there never will be another beatles, but Oasis still still make some good music from time to time.

Re: Beatles producer hits out at Oasis
I don't think that Oasis sounds like the beatles to be promoted by their record company as such. Some of their lyrics are admittedly beatle-esque, but their music has a rougher edge. It's not as melodic. I do agree with what George Martin about how they ripped off the beatles image.
I listened to Oasis some years ago due to all this hype about them sounding like the fabs. I'll admit, much of Oasis music was OK, but it lacked the superlative vocal harmonies and melodies that were associated with the fab 4. I came away very disappointed with Oasis. Not because of their music...because like I said, it was OK. But because they and their record companies pitched themselves off as sounding like the beatles, but nothing could be further from the truth. Oasis sounds a bit more like a grunge band.
Someone mentioned that Oasis has great admiration for the beatles, but I'm not too sure if that's true. A few years ago Noel and Liam challenged George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and rolling stone Keith Richards to a street fight while being interviewed on the radio!

Re: Beatles producer hits out at Oasis
Though Oasis is no Beatles, I really like there music. It is much better than a lot of the rock, and I use the term loosely, music that is popular now.

Re: Beatles producer hits out at Oasis
Oasis is a great band, in their own division, which can not be compared to the Beatles. I dont think they are
copyig the Beatles more than any other band out there. But every time they open their mouth they have to talk about the Beatles and link their music
to them. George Martin should not even bother to answer back.

Beatles producer hits out at Oasis
I completely agree with George Martin hitting out at Oasis, as they are hardly original. The reason for the Beatles success was because they were unique. Oasis cannot even come out with a song of their own. Of course this statement will provoke some idiot who knows absolutley nothing about musuc to argue that The Beatles had influences too, but we all know and accept that all contemporary music was influenced by its predecessors. But Rock`n' Roll was still only in its infancy in 1960, and McCartney and Lennon both acknowledge their inspiration. However, while The Beatles success can almost entirely be attributed to the competition between McCartney and Lennon, there is nothing that can be directly identified as a copy or immitation of any 50s Rock`n' Roll icon, not even Elvis. However, this should `not' be confused with interpretation, as it is The Beatles interpretation of Rock`n' Roll which redefined it and perhaps reinvented it, and in addition to this both McCartney and Lennons individualism fueled their competition. For example, it is an accepted fact that Lennon only began writing his own songs to compete with McCartney, who incidently was the first to write his own material. It should also be noted that before 1960, four piece bands were a rarity, especially if all its members were accomplished musicians and song writers.
Oasis cannot and should not even be mentioned in the same breath as The Beatles, as Oasis have not even contributed anything to the music industry. It is insulting to the music industry to compare them or even give any credit to Oasis. But, then again, in a world where the music industry is being brutally savaged and destroyed by the likes of Pete Waterman and Simon Cowell, it is perhaps accepted as a matter of `Apathy' that Oasis' poor immitation of The Beatles can go on without challenge.
One of the very first of Oasis' so-called hits, "Wonderwall" is almost an entire copy of "The Beatles, Strawberry Fields".
Need I say more.
Glenn

Well..... I don't know Oasis THAT well, I do like some of their songs, like Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, and Don't look back in anger (which apparently has the same opening chords as Imagine). I also do not know ANYTHING about the band itself. But they are enjoyable enough.
Yes it is a little unfair for George Martin to say things like that, because they have not really copied the Beatles, so much as they have been influenced by them. But, Sir George obviously has some bias, he did after all produce the biggest band in history.

Rather a stupid remark to make especially for one named as a moderator.
And which Oasis does it refer to? The Manchester band or Mary Hopkins' Oasis?
Any artist can be looked up on the Internet-its not like it was even in the 90s.

Stupid remark? You mean your own probably?
It is very nice that you know just about everything and that makes you our Links Encyclopedia Wise Guy, but not everyone knows every band in the world. So in my opinion your remark does not fit and is quite low level.

My remark was a joke showing how insignificant I find that band.
Big deal!
