A Question for the Younger Fans
To the younger beatles fans:
Do your peers tend to like the Beatles or more modern music? My friends tend to like current pop, like Backstreet Boys (a talentless group of prepubescent poster boys.) Only a few like the beatles, despite my efforts to convert them. Does anyone else have anything to say about this issue? If you ask me, people judge the Beatles because they are an old band. I think that if I played a Beatles song on a Top 40 radio station saying it was by a popular artist, it would be a megahit among my generation.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
Great description about Backstreet Boys. Couldn't put it better myself.
About the topic. I know a few people my age who like the Beatles, in fact most people in my school like them, but don't want to talk about them constantly like I'd like to. A few are into my PiD page at the moment as well.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
obessions are fun, yes our friends (14) like those bsbs or somethings, but they dont write their own music. i mean even elton john wrote at least the melody. the beatles are timeless. and if i may say a beatles (and donny mcclean) cult is rising by us.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
I dunno if I'd even count as a "younger" fan, but I do agree that if one played a Beatles song and tried to pass it off as a "new artist," it would get a warmer reception among the kids. At least, that's what I experienced in the early 80s when I was a teenage lass...
I think there's a popular misconception that the Fab Four were somehow "goody-goodies." This despite the stolen leathers in the early days, the Butcher Cover, John's heroin addictions, etc.
Huh.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
Everyone asks me why I love the Beatles so much. Well, one reason is that theyre lyrics aren't all full of smut and things like that. That band has got to be THE most humble band ever on earth! In 1964 they went to and orphanage and helped the kids paint easter eggs, and I thought, 'You don't see any other band do that stuff! These guys rule!!'.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
I wish people at my school had respect for The Beatles, and it's true, they judge them because they are an old band. I actually know ONE guy who listens to them. I've lent my friends The Beatles and John Lennon and it was cool, cuz they liked it!! My friend Dahnee watches me read my Beatle books, wear my Beatle shirts and he says, "Ugh, look at them, they're gay. Them and they're suits" Then there's the classic, "They're dead!" or, "You like old guys?"...yes, as a matter of fact, I like old, dead, guys.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
alot of my friends listen to "normal" *cough* music. But ever since I became a fan, I've been trying to convert them, and the ultimate anti-beatle just joined our tribute band! WHOO! What I think is funny is when people say "the beatles are anti-Christ." "aye? What do YOU listen to?" "eminem." uh-huh. riiiiight.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
I tend to agree. I started liking the Beatles in fifth grade (which seems like ages now, but it was 1995!) and I took a tape player around everyday trying to get my friends to listen to my Abbey Road tape. It's not easy to convert your friends when they already have a certain mindset for older groups.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
Some of my friends like the beatles and some dont. my best friend tolerates them. But I've shown her so much beatle footage in terms of movies and stuff that she and I have own in-jokes about them! there are quite a few kids at my school who like the beatles at least somewhat. Some of my relatives though think my mom brainwashed me into liking them but this is totally not true! I liked them all on my own! I hate it when they say that! I admit my mom got me into liking them, but I didnt become a major fan till a few years later and that had nothing to do with my mom.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
My friends are spilt into different groups: Theres the group who like modern, popular music; theres the group who like modern music but the more alternative stuff (i like that too) and they like some older bands (the older bands they like are Led Zeppelin, AC/DC etc); and thens theres me who likes the Beatles. Two of my friends are fans of The Beatles but they're not huge fans. But at my school people don't judge you on what music you like which is good. Seems like thats just my school though.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
well, i became a monkees fan before i was a beatles fan (of course, thought my classmates, what could be dorkier than a monkees fan?), and when i finally did "convert," i was lucky enough to take my best friend with me. i had converted her to a monkees fan first, so it was much easier for us both to get into the beatles.
i'm lucky enough to have a sort of beatles-tolerant situation here, having two bands coming out of my school, one who lists the beatles as an influence and another who actually play beatles songs in their sets. we're really not the typical "bsb" "nsync" school.
oh, and obsessions are good i'm even publishing an article this month in the school newpaper on beatles impersonators. haha

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
Everybody I know at school are only into the modern stuff, I believe I am the only Beatle fan in the entire school. When ever I mention the Beatles at school they either want to know more about the Beatles or they could care less. The students at school are black majority so white is a minority there, so there aren't a whole lot of people who would be fans. It's kind of hard to find someone who has the same interest in the Beatles as I do. But I hardly ever get put down for my Beatle love, I try to keep them to myself so no one can make fun. Nobody in the music world today will be remembered for the next 40 years like the Beatles. I hardly know any at all today. The Beatles have always been and will be forever my most favorite band. They are the greatest. I actually discovered them on my own, and I'm only 17. Well that's all what I wanted to say.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
Everyone is trying to get me into the modern rock like Sublime, Linkin Park, and all that. But luckily, there are a lot of kids at my school into "classic rock" so that's pretty neat.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
well my friends at school think the beatles are cool and they know one song from them and like it.
my friends are into some punk music and i think its ok. but some people who listen to country or hip hop (like thats galaxies away from being better) put me down for liking the beatles and some of my friends back me up. i think its pretty cool that half of my friends like led zeppelin and the beatles too.

Re: A Question for the Younger Fans
WELL! I have some strange opinions on music. I like pretty much everything (yes.. I even like some hip-hop *gasp*).
I'm definitely into electronica, hardcore, metal, pop-punk, etc.
As for my friends, they like pretty much the same. There are a few who are into the Beatles, the Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc etc.
