Default Memories of John

Here is a description of Yoko's new book.

Memories of John Lennon
by Yoko Ono
Book Description

John Lennon . . . as much a part of our world today as he ever was

He touched many lives in his brief forty years, and continues to move and inspire millions more to this day. Now, invited by Yoko Ono, friends, family, and fans from all walks of life -- including some of the great artists of our day -- reminisce about Lennon as a visionary and friend, musician and performer, husband and father, activist and jokester.

In their own words and drawings, poems and photos, Lennon's life from his childhood through the Beatles years to the happiness and tragedy of his final days become stunningly vivid.

Intimate glimpses gathered from musicians who knew John, such as Pete Townshend, Sir Elton John, Billy Preston, and Joan Baez; friends and relatives such as producer David Geffen, publicist Elliot Mintz, and cousin Mike Cadwallader; and artists who followed him such as Bono, Alicia Keys, Steve Earle, Jello Biafra, and Carlos Santana.

And, for the first time, renowned photographer Annie Liebovitz presents every frame of the historic last session with John and Yoko.

Memories of John Lennon is a rich and deeply felt appreciation of a truly great man.

I am really looking forward to getting this book. I love hearing about these one on one stories with all the people John worked with. For me it is like getting a panoramic view of all the facets of his personality, without focusing on only one specific time or place. It seems this book is going to cover all periods in his life, which I find refreshing.

A special treat is having all the Annie Liebovitz photo frames included, which is a first I think.

This one sounds interesting to me. If I'm understanding correctly, many people will be giving us a glimpse into their memories of John? Is that right? If so, I would really like to read it.

Yes many people will be sharing their memories of John. I not only like the concept of this book but I admire Yoko for creating a book like this instead of her own book about her relationship with John. To me this shows a much more well rounded insight into how John affected the lives of many not just how he behaved or mis-behaved in his various relationships.

I really like Yoko and think she has a lot of class, and she stands out of the crowd, in a way like no other.

I'm very excited to hear Annie Liebovitz tell her story. Hope it's not too sad, though...

Me too, though from what I remember John was in good spirits on that awful day.

Cool! Thanks for clarifying that for me, Lucy!

I agree, I think that's what makes this book so appealing for me is that it's not just one person writing an entire book about their detailed experiences with a person, but many people giving us just an overview of a person. It's true that forms a rather general or vague picture of the person & I know we'd love to know detailed info about our lads. But it's nice to sort of have it presented in this way because it often shows a common thread between many people who knew that person & seeing that common thread (for me anyway) sort of shows the general truth about who the person is/was.

We're just fans & never knew John, it's so hard for us to hear so many detailed stories & then try to figure out what is true & what is opinion. Having a more general view gives us a true overall glimpse of who is really was & how he affected the people he knew. I appreciate that!

I like Yoko, too, & I think she has class. I think much of what she says or does is misinterpreted. Some may be just because she was raised in Japan & some may just be her way of expressing herself. I think she's done a good job of keeping John's memory alive. (Some may say she's done it for money. I tend to think she's done it more because fans want it & because she loved him in her way.) Since I've been a fan for so long, I no longer see her as "weird". I've sort of figured out what she means when she says things that tend to confuse most people. I think she would he interesting to talk to & I think she's done what she thinks is best (whether or not I know it all or agree with it all... it doesn't matter! She's cool!)
