This film was actually shown in movie theatre's? Wow...for some reason I always thought it was just a made for TV thing. I also taped it off a tv cable channel that showed true to life films. But now I wonder if it was edited for cable.

What a senseless people. Hopefully I'm not that avert.
The theatre?? Sorta funny that someone would say that because this was never a theatrical release. In fact, when Dick Clark Productions first broadcast this made-for-tv film, John Lennon got a kick at the idea that the tech adviser was Pete Best and about how he he portrayed himself. It also has the dubious distinction of being the only biopic that was made when all four Fabs were still alive. BTW, take a look at the guy portraying John...sometimes when he turns his head a certain way he looks so much like the real thing it's frightening!

I'm referring to this: (From Keith Badman's After The Break-Up 1970-2000
(Omnibus Press, 1999), p.239

Friday November 23

ABC TV in America premieres the Dick Clark made-for-TV production of The Birth Of The Beatles. The film, which features The Beatles' former drummer Pete Best in the role of technical advisor, tells the story of the group from their days in Liverpool to when they first arrived in America, appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. Aside from claims that the film told them nothing new, fans are in uproar over the number of mistakes that appear in the feature-lenght film. As one Beatles fan remarks: "After the first ten minutes, I gave up counting the errors!"

I don't know, I was so mad when I read that. Count mistakes in Backbeat too is my point.
