Up Close and Personal
After reading Hofner Girl's account of meeting Paul, it occurs to me it might be interesting to ask if any of the rest of you have had personal encounters with any of the Beatles. Here's mine:
September, 1989, London. It's the day of Paul's annual Buddy Holly lunch and a friend of mine who knows somebody who works at MPL has found out where the lunch is going to be. We hop in a cab and when we get to the club, there are about 10 other people hanging around. A few minutes later, a TON of photographers show up, so we know we're in the right place! Moments later, Paul and Linda come strolling up right past me! He was very personable, but in a hurry and more interested in posing for the pro photogs than chatting with the fans, so we didn't get any "quality time". My friend (who had done this before) said that he'd be in the lunch for a while, so we might as well go off and have some lunch ourselves and try to catch him on the way out. A couple hours later, we did just that! All the photographers had left and only maybe 10-15 fans were left, so he took the time to talk to each of us, sign autgraphs, shake hands, etc. As he was signing my autograph, he could not get my pen to work, so he looked up at me (with those EYES!) and said "Sorry it looks a bit dodgy there, but I couldn't get the pen to work!" Totally moronically star struck, I gazed worshipfully at him and said "Oh...that's ok..." DUH. I got Linda's autograph too (she seemed surprised and pleased that I asked, as most people were understandably focused on Paul) and then they took off in their car. I tell you, by the end of that day, my face hurt from grinning so much!!
Now your turn!

Re: Up Close and Personal
Hey dont know if this applies here but talk about small worlds.I live in a small town outside Orlando FL and finally decided to take up the guitar about ten months ago. Wandered into the local smalltime music store bought a six string and signed up for lessons.I sit down for my first lesson with Steve -he asks me what music Im interested in and of course you know the answer to that. Turns out Steve is a luthier who used to work for the company that did the repairs and maintence on Johns instruments when he lived at the dakota in NY. He would pick up and deliver to John as part of his job. John had a habit of keeping his picks lodged in the top of the guitar at the neck and Steve had a habit of returning them without the picks. John noticed this of course and cornered Steve in the cafeteria one day, plopped a box of his Epiphone picks down in front of Steve-smiled and walked away. So I get to study with Steve and I have acouple of those picks mounted in my room. just knowing John owned them or possibly used them makes them worth more than anything I have here in my room of memories. God Bless to all and keep the torch lit.

Re: Up Close and Personal
A couple of years ago, Ringo was on tour and finally a Beatle played Dublin, all of us in the club were there, front row seats, tee-shirts and cameras at the ready, excellent.
For 2 months we had tried every contact we could to get back stage passes, no joy, on the evening of the gig, a few of us decided to chance our arm and try to get around the back to where the dressing rooms were. One of the gang, Terry, had cut out the advert for the gig from the daily newspaper, copied it, (1 for each of us) and laminited them, making what looked like official passes, did it fool the security? to our suprise, YES! Next thing we knew we were in Ringo's dressing room, and spent about 15 minutes chatting, he signed all of our passes, and laughed when he found out what they were, and when the staff tried to get us to go, he said, "hang on, I'm not finished with thes people yet" You can verify all this from our website at www.beatlesireland.com.
You can find out about Paul winking at me on our website as well!

and in the end........
