Default Wonderful Tonight

I picked up Wonderful Tonight and I'm half way through it. Has anyone started to read it before I comment? I don't see a thread yet for the book. I would like to say it's well written and I'm unable to put it down.

I pre-ordered it from Amazon a month ago and just got it the other day. I am currently reading it and will provide a review once I've finished.

I really appreciate the excellent writing and tone of the book. Many times these kinds of books (biographies) are put together by ghost writers who lose so much in the translation of the story and they are not written well. She seems very genuine, and I found her back story very interesting. I can see why she waited so long to write the book. It couldn't have been easy to tell this story, what with the iconoclastic image of her husbands.

I don't think she could have written it when George was still living.

I found her opinions of Harold, Sr. and Louise (the Elder) fascinating - I love reading about them as they sounded like genuinely nice, good people. No doubt Harold Sr. had wonderful stories to tell - the man sailed around the world!

I always loved Patti Boyd. I had her pictures hanging around my bedroom when growing up and thought she was so beautiful. I always adored her. I spent hours trying to get my eyes to look like hers... Funny now that I think back on those days. It was so interesting to read how she got started as a model, all the hard work and trekking around London to photographers. And George, literally swept her off her feet, not unlike her own mother's story...

Yeah...interesting Pattie's mother is a twin. She has had an interesting life, as have her daughters Pattie and Jenny. I thought she was attractive and I loved her hair, believe it or not.

Still, I would never trade places with Pattie for anything in creation.

I enjoyed reading about Twiggy and others who made the Swinging Sixties Dodge Dart Era scene. Some of her stories were funny. Others were sad, like how Louise the Elder found it all too much when she saw the 1969 moon landing, the same year her son wrote "Here Comes the Sun." I wanted more about them in the book. I like the part when she said her father-in-law lived with them shortly after becoming a widower; I wonder how long Harold Sr. stayed with them during his later years.

Perhaps another book? She's talented enough to write another one!

I have Wonderful Today and also pre-ordered Wonderful Tonight, Wonderful Today has arrived and I am reading it at the moment, and a good read it is too! Amazon then said that they are unable to get Wonderful Tonight now! I'm not sure whether one is for the UK and one for US, I can't make it out either?

I'm a little more than 1/2 done with the book and am really enjoying it. I believe that her co-author, Penny Junor, is a royal biographer, so that helps with its flow. I've really liked Patti's descriptions of Friar Park, which I've always found fascinating. George had the best taste in homes, in comparison to his Fab Four brothers, although the Dakota looks intriguing too. Patti seemed very isolated, bored, and rejected while she was married to George, who seemed either caught up with women, religion, or the madness/stress of the Beatles' latter years. I just wish that Patti had gone into more depth about George's fling w/ Maureen. Maureen seems like a mystery to me.

I just finished "Wonderful Tonight" and absolutely couldn't put it down. Really great insight she's given us. The 70's and part of the 80's seemed incredibly rough for her..but she came out a survivor. I'm an even bigger fan of hers now than I was before. She seemed to carry a deep love for George always and was, I thought, incredibly respectful of him.

And about the two books "Wonderful Tonight" and "Wonderful Today"..apparently they are the same exact books but with different covers and titles. The American and European publishers could not agree on book titles. That's all.

I had hoped for Pattie's feelings about George remarrying, and her relationship with Olivia. She skirted around their marriage.

Yes. There is a really nice one of Pattie with the senior Harrisons in Paris, ca. 1966. Another one you all might enjoy is one of Pattie and George being painted and you can see the portrait taking shape while they are posing. I think you'll also like the one of Eric on the shore and a really nice one of George in 1964.

I just went to Borders. It was also at Barnes and Noble but I got a better price at Borders. 20% off thru an email discount. I thought there would be more pictures, actually! I thought with her being a photographer, there would be several sections. Only one section, and some of the pics I had seen already.

I thought this was the case, greedy Amazon.co.uk offering both for sale then saying they couldn't get "Wonderful Tonight" anyway!!
I am about half way through and am finding it a damn good read I must say and beautifully written!

I think that thing with the titles is just ridiculous! I was looking on Play.com for it and they only had the Wonderful Today version but I want Wonderful Tonight since that is the name of the song and obviously what the book is MEANT to be called.
Can't wait to get it and read it.

I'm trying super super hard not to be judgemental.

I find the book very shallow so far.
