flaming pie/in the world tonight video
i wasn't sure where to post this so please move it to the video section if need be...
for some reason i've recently became re-obssesed with paul's "flaming pie" album. i wish he could be more consitently good like this. pretty much every song is complete and well-written both musically and lyricly. just a lovely, hopeful album.
anyway, i remembered that video documentary that came out shortly after the album called "in the world tonight." does anyone here have it/seen it? the amazon reviews are so-so and haven't convinced me yet to buy even a used VHS copy. yet, i'm still interested and would love everyone's feedback in this forum. i'd like some details about scenes and diaglogue please.
thanks!

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
I saw it when it was first broadcast, but honestly, although I remember thinking it was very good, I don't remember many specifics. I'll try to find my tape and refresh my memory....

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
I find it great documentary. You get the videoclip for "In The World Tonight" behind the scenes of the making of "Flaming Pie" the part together with Ringo is great, when they are doing "Beautiful Night" instead of the usuall lyrics they sing somehing like "Cause you're a bastard, and you just gone to far". I find it esential.

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
It was a good documentary. I think they played it on VH1 when the album came out. It's nice to see behind-the-scenes of one of his best albums (IMHO). You get to see him goofing off in the studio, etc.--it's neat. I think that's the same documentary where he sings "Calico Skies" to Linda as she's sitting next to him--QUITE a tear-jerking moment.

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
This is a great documentary, and I love the end of "Calico Skies" how he just sets his guitar aside, and starts poking at the fire he's sitting by. Like he's just being an ordinary guy who didn't just sing that amazing song. Ahh, Flaming Pie is awesome!

I saw it when it was first shown on TV. I quite enjoyed it, and would say it is worth the purchase, especially if you are a big fan of the album.

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
Hey, I just watched this tonight. My gawd, is Paul a HAM! But, I love him (and ham) anyway! Lots of cute moments there, most touching were the moments with Linda . His little ditty on the piano with Ringo, reminiscent of LIB. Btw, he sure did talk alot about the past. Who said Ringo was a sentamentalist? I say, it's Paul! Cute video, I shall cherish it.

The video is one of his best "making of the album vids." Over here in England you can often pick it up for next to nothing in thrift stores and the like. I would highly recommend it.

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
Ok, I finally watched this video (from Netflix) and it's excellent. Only now I think I'll be forced to get the Ooobu Joobu set . What a goofball with the mellotron.
God, if Linda hadn't died, he might still have made an album even better than "Flaming Pie." It seemed like they were getting back to their roots a bit, with Paul doing most of the instruments himself, inviting Ringo & George Martin, very little over-production, homemade music videos. Wow, just so many great parts to that era immediatly following the Anthology.
Anyone who's seen it--doesn't Linda look a tad sickly? Not to sound morbid, but she couldn't have died more than a year later, right? I honestly don't know much about her sickness.
It also made me realize how much Paul has changed since then. I don't know if it's Heather, or getting older, or the new millenium, but he seemed so much more real then, you know? It's ok if you don't .

I mean, he's changed, but I've changed too since 1997. I'm sure we all have, it's called getting older and for some of us, keeping up with the times. Maybe it's more that I miss that Paul? I dunno.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">She does. But then again she doesn't do too many appearances. I believe she is riding a horse here and there in the forest sequences, and singing her harmony part with Paul in one mic for "Beautiful Night". And she looked quite sick. But still beautiful. I don't think she was an attractive woman, but I do find her beautiful, does that make any sense?
That video, if only for the "Beautiful Night" recording sequences with Ringo, Jeff, Linda and George Martin (and all the facts surrounding it) is absolutely essential for any McCartney fan. I have it because my sweetheart made a copy of it for me, as I had only seen it on first broadcast way back then in 1998 or so - but having that, and also a short homemade vid for "Calico Skies" next to a fire, or the recording of Paul's vocals to "Little Willow"... is really priceless.
I also think that if Linda were alive, Paul's upcoming projects would have sounded better. But it's just speculation. Talking about this video, yes, it's fantastic.

Re: flaming pie/in the world tonight video
I watch the video when I'm feeling rather mellow...to me, it symbolizes the end of an era and a big chapter in Paul's life. Linda looks like she's barely hanging on-so sad to see-it tore my heart out. But seeing her singing next to him for last time (that we got to see) seemed quite comforting; it's where she belonged up until her last breath.
