Ringo Starr 'I'm cr*p at Rock Band'
Ringo Starr: 'I'm cr*p at Rock Band'
http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=231568
Thursday 14-Jan-2010 12:25 PM Beatle admits he can't play game themed around his own band
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has admitted that he's "crap" at the drums on The Beatles Rock Band.
But the insurance-hawking skinsman wasn't down on the game - as he admitted those that could master it were "geniuses".
"I'm absolutely c**p at it," he told US TV Jimmy Fallon. "We tried it when they were putting it together and they'd bring all these geniuses out to play it. It's too frantic for me.
He added: "The graphics are great, I love the game and I love the music. But it's for young folk."
Ringo's not the first Beatle to admit he's no good at the game - Paul McCartney didn't even give it a try.
Still, at least they're both realistic about gaming. McCartney's ex, on the other hand...

LOL!
Yeah, it's hard for actual instrument players to catch-on to the game.
Whenever I play at my friends' house, I volunteer for vocal duties. It's the only "instrument" I can score 100% on!

The drums are particularly hard; the guitars have the guitar notes show up on a graphic of a guitar neck, but the drum notes show up on a guitar neck graphic as well, so you can't just replicate what's shown on screen.

I've been playing it for a couple of weeks now and have managed to advance to medium on bass and got a few 100%. The guitar, on the other hand, I just started trying it on medium and am still working to get the chords right. The drums are not my forte.
I have never played an instrument before except "air guitar". It does help some when moving my fingers on the frets.

This is basically me although I've been playing since the game came out. Being that you're starting out too I just wanted to know if you are also playing "realistically" (right handed for guitar; left for bass).
I'm right handed but I'm now figuring out that I'm better playing lefty.

Well, depending on the song, singing in-tune isn't THAT easy. But you know when you're doing something right when you score a 98% on "Paperback Writer"!

I find the drums are hard because - like the guitarist dilemma - a drummer expects the drums to be in specific spots (i.e. the snare to the left with the high-hat beside it to the right, the crash cymbal to be up and to the right, etc., etc. The Rock Band "drum kit" is not set-up as an actual drum kit, nor are there enough "pads" to constitute an entire drum kit.
It's a game that requires learning a skills set as far as the instruments. That's why I prefer and gravitate towards singing on the game - you don't have to learn or re-program notes that you know how to hit.

Sometimes I have trouble and I play real guitar and drums. The drums are more difficult -- I can't go expert straight off!

I can understand the difficulty
Of coordination once you begin to play,
But the drumming portion actually becomes
Much like real drumming once you
Get the hang of it.
However, drumming is a lot more
Easier to handle without having to follow
Something on the screen.
I have never been very good at it on the game,
I've only mastered expert guitar and bass.
But if you can already master a real instrument,
Than that's even better!

For the most part it is, until you get to singing a Ringo song then I just do terrible. I can't get down to the tone of his voice.

I love playing bass on the game more than I do guitar most of the time, because 1.) The Bass is one of my favorite parts of a Beatles song and 2.) it's easier! xD Someday I'll manage to go back and master the guitar though, because when I'm playing multiplayer, I'm basically screwed if the other person wants to play bass xD

I played for the first time in several months and I was surprised that I could still do so well. I have been playing other Rock Band games too. Thanks to that I was able to do even better on some of the songs. I tried playing bass on hard and got 100% on "In My Life". I even played some on hard guitar and increased previous scores also.

When I first played Guitar Hero I could do it really well. And at this time, I was playing "real" guitar already. I have no problem with it! I think the real guitar players, have an advantage in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, because, they can "handle" their fingers better. Especially their little finger. I think the most non-guitar players have problems with it...?

I do not play "real" guitar so I think I've done fairly well for myself.
