Am I the only one who likes Happiness is a Warm Gun and Across the Universe?
Those might be my favorites, but I think they are severly underrated. What do you guys think of them?
Happiness switches moods every little bit, and it's almost like you don't know what to feel.
Across the Universe has something you can just think about for hours and then make a painting about.

They are both fantastic tracks. Personally I prefer Across the Universe. It has a mysterious vibe to it and I think it should have been put on the White Album.

Haha, yeah, it's true, those are both universally loved by all Beatles fans. Pure John songwriting, right there.

I totally agree. Although I like Happiness is a Warm Gun, I really love Across the Universe. The lyrics are amazing, and probably what I feel is Lennon's best poetry. Musically, I love the calm, soothing, mysterious sound.

As you can see already, there's no need to feel you are alone in loving both songs. I like "Happiness..." mainly because of how it shows off John's vocal range--jumping from the deep "Mother Superior jumped the gun" line immediately to the high notes of the final "Happiness is a warm gun" chorus.
The lyrics thoughout most of it don't make a whole lot of sense--but then neither do the lyrics to "I Am The Walrus"--but I think John was proud of having it progress in 4 very different segments.
And, as for "Across the Universe" --those lyrics are so achingly beautiful and poetic! They should be printed in poetry collections along with the more commonly printed Beatles lyrics like "In My Life" and "Eleanor Rigby".

Happiness & Universe: like most of John's songs...beautiful nuggets of pure gold in a world tainted by mediocrity!

I like Across the Universe, but I don't like Happiness is a Warm Gun at all. It's one of the few songs I really dislike by the Beatles. (there's only a handful I can say that about!)

You´re definitely not alone in liking these songs. Personally I LOVE both of them. Across The Universe is one of the most beautiful songs John´s written and I love the lyrics. I consider Across The Universe one of my favorite Beatles songs. Happiness Is A Warm Gun is a favorite of mine from The White Album, I especially love the first part of it and I have to sing along every time (or at least mime, if I´m listening to it in a public place ). Excellent work by John!

I like Happiness Is A Warm Gun - lyrics like '..velvet hand like a lizard on a window pane' are priceless. Don't quite understand the bit about him eating the soap impression of his wife and donating it to the National Trust though...

Both songs are great, but I question "Happiness.." For some reason, it just seems weird to me. Tori Amos totally ruined the song for me..she did her own version and it was just blah. It was creeepy.

Okay really, I can understand saying something like, "Am I the only one that likes Wild Honey Pie?" But ATU and HIAWG? Most people, as said, cream over these :P

Under-rated, definitely...
I always loved "Across The Universe"... but WHICH version???? I like the version that was included on the Anthology II, myself. Never cared for the over-produced version on "Let It Be".
As for "Happiness...", I love it. It's total Lennon White Album genius. He obviously had four different ideas that he was screwing around with, and just strung them together to create one song.

I think Happiness is a Warm gun is one of my favorite Beatle tracks. I love the time changes, it's unique. I love it.
