Beatles books that you own (or once owned)?

I was inspired by 4No1's thread regarding the book "Beatles Forever". It got me thinking about all the Beatles books I own or have owned...

Here are mine:

Beatles Forever by Nicholas Schaffner. Had an original 1st printing in paperback, but that fell apart and I gave it away to a friend. Acquired a new hard cover copy a few years later.

The Beatles Illustrated Record by Roy Carr and Tony Tyler.
I have two copies of this. The first one in hard cover I received as a gift in 1977/1978(?). It was my favorite! Big color pictures of albums covers! I received a second copy in paperback a few years later... updated with a "death of John Lennon" section in the back.

The Beatles Encyclopedia A-Z by???? Paperback book, black cover with a Sgt. Pepper's era photo on the front cover.

The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics 2 by Alan Aldridge

Before They Were The Beatles by???? I think this book is OOP now. Great book with amazing photos from the Hamburg and Cavern days.

Screenplay to A Hard Day's Night Great book of the movie script.

The Beatles Official Discography by??? An old out-dated edition from like 1975. The final McCartney release listed in it is "Venus And Mars". Lists who played what on certain songs. It was thanks to this book that I was enlightened to the fact that each of the four members didn't always play ONLY their main instruments.

A book who's title I can't recall... it's the one that was wrapped with the Andy Warhol art as the dust jacket.

I have a couple of photo books of which I can't recall the exact titles of... and a book that is basically a bunch of reproductions from the Mersey Beat newspaper chronicling their rise to fame.

The Beatles: a Private View by Robert Freeman

The Beatles In Their Own Words by???

I think that covers it (heh-heh! No pun intended).

I hardly have any Beatle books, so my list is easy:

The Beatles Anthology
Postcards From the Boys - Ringo Starr
The Beatles Every Little Thing - Maxwell Mackenzie
A Teenagers Guide to the Beatles - Zane Lalani

And that's about it. (pathetic little list, I know!)

I used to have Lennon by Ray Coleman, and also "Spaniard in the Works" but I sold them a few years ago.

Oh I agree! I don't know why I love books! I must admit, my faves are the ones that have lots of pics! I'm so bad about reading sometimes! & whlie some of the books are for fun or not always 100% true, it's still interesting to read them!

I've collected a lot of magazines over the years, too. Again.. probably more for the pics, but I get such a giggle when I read the old teenie magazines from the 60s! You know those are for fun!

Oh I just LOVE Postcards From the Boys! I was so thrilled that Ringo did that book. So sweet of him to share! I've collected postcards that have been sent to me for decades! In fact, I have some Rell & Lynner sent to me as well as a few other Linkers! I could do a Postcards From the Linkers!

Yeah, I love Ringo's book! It's interesting to see all the postcards he collected over the years, how they were addressed to him, etc.

I'm the same way, Asha! My favorties are the ones with lots of pictures. "The Illustrated Record" by Roy Carr and Tony Tyler was always my favorite because it was light on text and heavy on color pics!

I have an extensive Beatles' library and it would be a major challenge to list all the books I have. Short version - here are some I highly recommend. Ray Coleman's biography of John Lennon is one very outstanding book along with Alan Clayson's biographies of each inidividual Beatle.

I also have a rather extensive Beatles library (part of which is in NZ under the care of my mother - she is constantly adding to it for me whenever she sees a new book on them which is very sweet of her!) so won't provide a full list.
I have been re-reading the Anthology book recently and that would have to be one of my favs simply because of the beautiful presentation and the fact that it is THEM!
I also love my Rolling Stone "Harrison" book.

The Recording Sessions by Lewisohn
The Complete Beatles Chronicle by Lewisohn - an excellent source book that covers it all. Read it cover to cover, and everytime I pick it up, I seem to spy something new.
Here, There, and Everywhere by Geoff Emerick - a great read full of technical details of the later recording sessions.
The Compleat Beatles - 2 volume song books that have been used so much spines are cracked and pages are falling out.
The Beatles' England - by David Bacon and Norman Maslov. Such a cool little book with lots of pictures. It appeals to my archaeologist side showing the places, architecture, and artifacts associated with the Beatles in England and Hamburg as well. I call it "A Landscape Approach to the Beatles".
Paul McCartney and Wings by Tony Jasper. Mostly pictures, got it for free when a book store I used to work at cleared out it bargain books.
Also currently I have I, Me, Mine out from the library. I've only just started reading it.

I was given this for Christmas back when I was like 11 yeas old - when I started playing the guitar. I was always puzzled by how a music book for a band as great as The Beatles could have a misspelled word in it - "Compleat" ("Complete").

Mine is still in pretty good shape. I didn't use it all that much as I taught myself to play nearly 100%.

I forgot to mention the children's book Who Were the Beatles? by Geoff Edgers. The Digkids thoroughly enjoyed it.

And since Digmom was the one to read them the chapter discussing their nicknames, they are usually quick to point out: "Paul. He was the cute one. But mommy thinks George was the cute one."

I really like them, as I've just started getting into bootlegs. But I haven't compared them to Doug Sulpy's books on bootlegs (I plan on buying copies in Chicago this weekend). Does anyone else here know how Winn's books and Sulpy's books compare?
